Not quite. JaMarcus had the physical attributes of a star but was never good. Maybe he could have been with focus and effort. Zion was actually good from day one, at least as a scorer. He was one of the best in the paint scorers as a rookie. Lots of rookies put up decent numbers, but the vast majority are inefficient. Zion was efficient.

Some basketball players have talked about wearing out their bodies. Dirk recently said he wished he'd stopped younger because he ruined his feet and can't play soccer with his kids. He was 40ish when he hung it up. Agree that football is far worse.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Zion wanted out after the first season. I think he wanted to go to the Knicks the entire time, and when he didn't, he pretty much stopped caring. With this attitude, he's definitely not going to be offered a max contract, and will probably end up signing with a big market team.

Dirk had terrible ankle problems and they would have to use needles on him for 3 hours before a game to break up the scar tissue enough for him to play his last couple of seasons. Most NBA players that don't let themselves get fat are fine after their careers are over. Zion's already a chunky boy while playing in the NBA so he was gonna be physically screwed by the time he's 40 whether he plays another NBA game or not. If he never touched a basketball he'd probably be a smooth 350 with type 2 diabetes at 35 years old

i think most players end up fine, not like they end up with CTE or physically handcapped. they're still probably better off than the average couch potato despite mayb some nagging and susceptibility to certain injuries.

Didn't know Dirk had it that bad. Based on what I've seen so far from Zion, I agree with your assessment. Hope he turns it around though, he had the potential to be special. I'm not a Lebron lover by any means, but one thing I think even the haters should recognize about Lebron is his commitment to taking care of his body. Shaq could have been an all time great if he had the same dedication.

I'm not a Lebron fan at all but I respect what he's doing especially this year. He is one day older than I am so I know how much it hurts to all out at our age. I can still go hard as I ever could but the difference is how much it hurts. Hell, I've got to do yoga on days when I workout just so I can have the mobility to squat properly lol. I can't even imagine playing high level basketball several times a week. My back aches just thinking about it and I don't have half the mileage on my body he has

Zion has the talent to be the next Lebron but I doubt he'll ever put it together. He just doesn't seem to give a chit. I'm a Grizzlies fan and am so glad we wound up with the number 2 pick instead of number 1

Wat? Shaq is 100% an all-time great already. If you meant that he could have been in the same conversation as MJ/Magic/Bird/Lebron/Kareem, etc. if he worked harder, then I agree.

Most people put Shaq around top 5-10. i consider it MJ/Lebron/Kareem as definite top 3. If he had Kobe work ethic (and figured out free throws) I think he could have made a case for #1. Jordan's shadow was awfully long though (still is), but especially in the 2000's. But I think he could have been in that conversation.
