Trevor Lawrence and the Jags agree to a 5-year $275 million deal w/ $200 million guaranteed

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...year-275m-deal

Yikes

IMO no player should have a salary bigger than Mahomes'. Pro sports teams are so retarded lol

When they are giving a guy like Lawrence 55 million a year then all that means is people like Mahomes deserve at least 80. Can't imagine how they are going to build a team around him when 80% of their money is being given to one player.

As a point of reference, Tom Brady made 25 million in 2021.

These contracts are getting dumb now, and I don't know how the league can sustain them.

I think I read that as of right now, there are 9 qbs who make more than Mahomes or something. The Lawrence contract is obviously terrible but they have to pay it. It’s the nature of the game. If they don’t and he walked, someone else would pay it because most of the league is just that desperate.

There are not 9 QBs making more than Mahomes. His new money extension put him at like 53 million per year for the next 4 seasons and they will probably make similar deals every few years

won't wish that on anyone but that f**ker ruined football with the blatant rigging by the NFL. I dont know any football fans outside KC that can enjoy watching KC games with the refs rigging it.

Fantasy Football is probably the only reason keeping the NFL relevant.

The way they hand out contracts is retarded. The newest deal shouldn't automatically be the new highest paid player. Sometimes it will be deserved but in this case it is not. Guys like Lawrence should not be making more than Mahomes.

its all relative to the cap and projected cap growth. Signing today for more than Mahomes is not necessarily getting more in terms of % of cap when Mahomes signed.

Mahomes also purposely signed a long AF deal

tl;dr - NFL might have pressured DirecTV and now Youtube to offer Sunday Ticket at prices higher than they normally would have. NFL wants the product to be at a premium and discourage a lot of people from buying so they can prop up Fox and CBS and encourage viewers to watch local games there.

When the rights for Sunday Ticket were up for bid in 2022 ESPN wanted to offer the package for $70 annually along with an option to just purchase a single team's games. The NFL rejected their offer.

The NFL losing this lawsuit would be a big win for fans. The price might go down, and we might get options for just buying a single team's games or a group of teams' games, like Youtube initially teased when they first announced the winning bid.
I dont really understand the lawsuit or how they could lose, but yes. Apple was initially going to win the bid but they only wanted it if they could charge a way lower price and NFL said no.

I just dont see why that would be illegal.

The cap is such bullchit

Every dollar earned that league year should go towards the cap number. Too much financial wizardry in the league

That isn’t directed at the chefs. Just the league in general.

I would have traded him (srs). But no GM would have the balls to trade the #1 pick from a few years agoin casehe wins elsewhere. Having watched Lawrence for 3 years, I definitively have the opinion that he isnowhere neara top 10 quarterback (srs).

I don't know why franchises pay these quarterbacks lol. History shows time and again, you will not win a super bowl with a QB on a top contract unless he is basically a hall of fame level quarterback.

One of the main points of the lawsuit that people arent talking about is that advertisement costs got passed onto the consumer instead of the NFL making FOX and CBS take the hit on advertisements. For example - you pay for Sunday Ticket (A "Premium" Product) so why am I still forced to see advertisements from local games if I am paying $300-$500 ? Its insane. The NFL allegedly colluded with these tv companies to leave everything the same and make the consumer pay more because of it.

That definitely is against consumer protection laws.
