Why are people so blown away by Shohei Ohtani's contract?

Keep seeing stuff like it's ridiculous and he's way overpaid.

Let me ask you, if the Dodgers signed Mike Trout for 10 years $400 mil (which was basically his extension) and Gerrit Cole on an 8 year $324 mil contract (which is his latest contract) then would anyone care they spent $700 mil for a MVP candidate hitter and Cy Young candidate pitcher?

If you believe Ohtani is two players that is, he made exactly what he should have. Unless deep down you all know that Ohtani being two players is ultimately a scam (which it is) but nevertheless that's what the Dodgers paid for. Think of it like signing both and Cole going down for repeated TJ's making it a wasted contract and the Dodgers are basically getting the same thing lmao
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Sellouts for years to come= priceless......

No need to do the numbers but we are "possibly" seeing:
Tiger in his prime
MJ with the bulls
Brady with the Patriots
Ohtani do both with the Dodgers, and people will travel the world to see that.
Imagine international ticket sales for the next 10 years.

generational talent and money.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

It's almost a guarantee he will just turn into a DH or positional player in the next 3-4 years. There's no chance he will continue to both hit and pitch at a high level throughout his contract.

His era is always bloated. He'll never win a cy young if he doesn't lower his era to under 3.
