What would you do in this situation? Srs thread.

I’ve been seeing a chick for a few months, nice girl, works out goes to the gym and looks good. She’s always seemed a bit random in the things she sometimes says and a bit shy at times.

Last week she told me she is on the autism spectrum. I wouldn’t have really known unless she told me I would’ve just thought she’s a bit random. She’s just finishing university and is planning on opening a gym and being a PT.

I don’t want to end something because she told me she is on the spectrum but I also feel as if I may be taking advantage of someone. Anyone have experience on this?

I know this is probably the worst place to ask this type of question.

Are you saying I’m thinking too much into the whole spectrum thing she’s told me about? I’ve never been in a situation where I’m dating someone on the spectrum and never thought I would be so I don’t really know if it’s possible to have a serious relationship with someone like that.

I dated chick which was normal but also I suspected there is smth wrong. Either autism or bipolar something wasn't right. Also heard from others. However I decided to give it a chance as I don't judge people so easily.

Relationship was fine, although 4 months in I ocasionally asked myself "who is this person"? There was something I couldn't put my finger on. If you want to know how relationship ended check my thread.

I don't know if this helps.

I should probably give her more of a chance. It’s just there’s this massive stigma on people with autism I suppose but realistically it all comes down to the individual. Some have it mild or barely noticeable and some cases are more severe. Didn’t want to think I was setting myself up for failure with this sort of thing, mainly wanted to hear other people’s take on the matter.

Sounds like you’re overthinking. If everything is going well, keep it going.

So her having autism wasn’t something that affected the relationship or has any factors that determined the outcome of it? This girl I’m seeing seems cool but I don’t want to continue if this is something that’s destined for failure but like I’ve already said it’s extremely mild to the point where I may not have noticed it if she didn’t tell me.

This isn’t one of those things I could go round asking friends and family advice for because it would be pretty rude of me telling people that she’s on the spectrum before she even meets anybody.

Thank you for the responses guys I appreciate it.

Would you realistically do this because you found out someone is on the spectrum?

it's all in your head. I'd even go so far as to say everybody is autistic. That's why is a spectrum, there are people are more, and people who are less, people who are in between, and people who are inbetween those who are in between. All levels. People who are "not autistic" are simply on the lower end of the spectrum, but still on the spectrum. For her to be "on the spectrum" that she admitted, it just means she's higher than average, but it in NO WAY means that she is high up there. If so, you would've noticed it obviously. If you don't even notice it, I'd say that although she may be diagnosed as being on the spectrum, she is functionally off the spectrum.

no it's not destined for failure, it is if you keep thinking the way you do and can't get over it. It's just like if your gf is a megasloot and you found out after a few months of dating and then couldn't get over it and looked at her differently from then on. She was honest with you, that's a good thing, since you didn't even notice anything before, then it's NOT a problem. If the relationship ever ended, it's likely because you couldn't get over it and in that case, it would in fact be your problem.
