Should I fix my cracked windshield through my insurance or out of pocket?

500 deductible to fix my cracked windshield

To fix the windshield through tesla is between 1600-2000

Does anyone know if this effects my futures rates if i filed a claim? Is it worth it to just pay out of pocket?

Wheres kimm4 for my help? Didnt you work for auto insurance please help.

Edit : found a guy on fb marketplace in philly he says hell do it for $ 790 might let him do it

What would the windshield be considered in your case? A wall or roof?

Comprehensive claims shouldn't affect your rates though I would give them a call and ask what, if any, effect it could have on your insurability. Just to be safe.

Make sure you use a reputable company. Imagine if the dude off FB fucks it up and doesn't back up his work. You'll be out $790 and have to take him to small claims court to get it back, plus pay someone else to do it right.

They do.

I got a "free windshield" replacement since I had 0 deduct windshield on my policy.

Upon renewal time a few months later I said "zero claims" and got rejected, I could only renew my 20 year policy by saying I have 1 claim on my insurance... I forget how much if any it went up, but they do consider it a claim. I think my rates went up like 20-80 bucks per year? I forget it was a few years back, but I was shocked they busted me for saying "zero claims", and wouldn't renew unless I told them I had "1 claim" on progressive....

Yeah its "official policy" that "it doesn't affect your rates" but back here in the real world....

Mario. I cannot put myself in your shoes for many reasons. And I don't know your financial situation. What I can say is that adding zero deductible glass coverage to your insurance is like $15/m.

I have used mine various times and my policy has never gone up in price. I have progressive.

Interesting.

Noted.

Luckily I'm not dumb, and I don't pour boiling water on my windshield to "clear away the ice" like the Tranny above did.... so I've only had one replacement in the last decade...

I forget the specifics, but the amount was so little (less than the price of the windshield) I didn't care enough to do anything but renew.

Windshield claims do appear on CLUE reports, but they generally do not have a meaningful impact on premium unless there are multiple claims. That said, the rise in windshield claim frequency is contributing to broader premium increases in some states, particularly in the Northeast and Florida, though that is a separate issue.
At your renewal, be sure to select the windshield replacement option on your policy. The cost is $120 annually and it provides coverage with no deductible.
You should also have the windshield replaced through Safelite or your Tesla dealership. Otherwise, any future related claim could potentially be denied if the carrier determines the damage worsened due to lack of timely repair. Since you have a Tesla, proper calibration is especially important because the windshield integrates with the vehicle’s cameras and driver-assistance systems.
