I’ve decided that tipping makes no logical sense

If a server brings you a 100 dollar meal and a 50 dollar meal for your friend it’s the same amount of work.

Why do you have to give a 20 dollar tip for the 100 dollar meal and your friend only needs to give a 10 dollar tip for the 50 dollar meal?

Bodybuilders against tipping crew. Who is with me? I legit think I’m going to stop tipping srs.

Not only am I not going to tip I’m going to report servers not paying taxes on their tips.

If you’re in the U.S. follow this link to report servers not reporting taxes on their tips: https://www.irs.gov/help/report-fraud/report-tax-fraud-a-scam-or-law-violation

If you’re in Canada use the following link: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/programs/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/suspected-tax-cheating-in-canada-overview.html

Yea but its engrained in our society.

It was a jewish tactic to pay their employees less and for the g0yim to foot the bill.
-germ theory is 100% fake

yeah tipping is cucked.

also, it's a misconception that servers make less then minimum wage. if their tips don't bring them up to minimum wage, their employer is legally obligated to make up the difference to bring them up to the minimum wage.

think about it - why would it be called "minimum wage" if an employer could get away with paying less than that?

It's your job to pay the goyim, not the restaurant owner.

It took them less than 5 minutes of actual work to write down your order. Most places they don't even have to deliver the food

Now they want 20 dollars tax free for 5 minutes of unskilled labor

That's 240 dollars an hour for unskilled labor

When you add in 30 percent tax savings that's now 312 dollars an hour for unskilled labor that doesn't even require a highschool degree

Do you realize how narcissistic it is to tell your customers who make far less that you are entitled to 312 dollars an hour for unskilled labor?

It's ridiculous man!

And the tip being proportionate to the price of the meal would make sense if the tip was going to the chef who maybe had to put in more effort for a more expensive meal (thats a stretch too) as opposed to a server where the price of the meal has no relationship to how hard they worked to serve you.

The system is broken!

I made this thread because apparently Canadian and US servers are all pissed that Europeans travelling to North America for the world cup aren't tipping them. I absolutely love it and I hope its a wake up call. We need some serious reform!

Also good point about delivering the food. A lot of the time its a fucking bus boy or food runner.

It should just be banned

They want tips for so many things now that never got tipped. If you pick up take out now they beg for a tip and I never give tip for take out. I worked at subway briefly and that was never a thing.

You have to tip someone for grub hub deliveries if you want assurance they won't spit in your food and the price is already double of picking it up so I haven't used that in a few years

Well I'm done with tipping. Next time I go out I'm going to shamelessly not tip a cent. Don't care if it makes me a social outcast.

I've had enough.

I've had reduced my tips on uber eats before for bad service and they never refunded me the difference.

Now I manually tip 10% especially if the route is easy.

The commissary (grocery store) the baggers get paid tips only, they know this when accepting the job

Everyone goes to the self checkout lane to avoid them

Last time I went though one they bagged like two bags and did maybe 2 minutes of work. I gave them a dollar, that is 30 dollars an hour tax free for u skilled labor. That's 39 dollars an hour considering tax benefits

They gave me the death stare like I kicked their dog

They really think they should get like 200-300 dollars an hour to do unskilled labor. I'm tired of this shit, it's not my fault you're 50 and never developed any skills

no logic to be found.

Its really not about tipping, its about following societal norms. if you don't want to tip, move to another country that doesn't have this practice (or even better stop doing drugs and wasting your money). Or how about just dont go to places that require it?

maybe no one likes to tip but it should be done. not to mention it looks really bad to others. I wouldn't do it unless alone thats for sure. of course this doesnt mean you should tip for picking up your food or making something yourself but rather only for service.

in the end, money doesnt' matter that much cuz you dont' know when you are going to die anyway might as well tip and spread good karma.

I don't know why people complain so much about tipping. It actually puts more control back into your hands. The alternative to a culture that doesn't tip is restaurants increase all items on the menu by 20% and raise the base pay that is given to waiters.

By introducing tipping you actually are getting the price of the item at an initial discount, where you then decide how much the final amount is on the backend after service was provided. The baseline should be paying the 20% and adjusting from there because if there is no tipping culture then restaurants are likely just going to lock you in at 20% increase for the items themselves. The 20% tip is not actually extra like most people treat it as. It's what the price would be if there was not tipping and they are putting that percentage of the price back in your hands to adjust it up, down, or remain at 20%

For the staff, it also offers a chance to earn more than a fixed menu price increase where if they do go above and beyond it's possible the customer will be appreciative enough to tip over the 20% amount.

I will say tipping has gotten out of control for services that are paid properly and are trying to take advantage of the system. Something like tour guides or furniture movers. I go scuba diving and if they offer a dive guide for a surcharge (usually like an extra $100) I will get the dive guide. Then they have the nerve to add a tip jar on the boat as well. The is a complete abuse of the system. It's the same deal with furniture movers. I know for a fact these people aren't getting paid below minimum wage. Expecting tips on top of the cost is ridiculous.

I'll give good tips at small places with cheap food if I enjoyed the service

Expensive places can compensate their employees better with all the extra money they make scamming customers

In countries where tipping isn't common practice menu items aren't 20 percent more expensive. This is probably an overly simplistic view though and I'm probably not well versed in the economics of a restaurant to accurently assess.

The "only make $2 an hour" thing is bullshit in most states. In NYC they make the city minimum wage of $17/hr and expect a tip on top of that. Plus given NYC restaurant prices that can easily be $10-20 per person served.

Cunts are clearing six figures waiting tables, easy.

Well, restaurants all set their own prices is the thing. A steak from Longhorn costs like $20 and a steak from a Vegas restaurant an cost like $80.

So it's virtually impossible to go just off the value of the food item itself. In theory the items is marked down relative to what you would pay if tipping wasn't a standard practice in this country.

But you're right it's marked down relative to whatever he restaurant would want to set it's prices as in the first place which highly variable because you're not just buying the item when you go to the restaurant, you're also buying the skill of preparing it, and the ambiance of serving it to you.
