Did I fuk up leaving a fully remote job for a demanding hybrid pay paying 87% more?

I had a remote job where I didn't do much and much less to do compared to current job, but that also brought some stress because the CEO would sometimes call us out on the team during conference calls saying what value are you high paid employees providing? CEO/co-founder of firm had a brash personality. I really enjoyed working only from home but I worried the stability of my employment at that firm but I could've milked it longer.

I landed a 2-3x per week in office hybrid job paying 87% more. I thought it would be my dream role and it's more prestigious too. But the work is quite hard, no relaxed days, and tons of more group collaborations required which I hate. I dread Sunday nights that I didn't have before while working remote jobs.

Had the other company ever actually done layoffs to people recently?

If not it might have been an irrational fear born out of feeling like you didn’t contribute much and could easily be cut….. and I would say you fucked up if so.

If there had been actual layoffs though I’d say you did good to get out while you still could.

Just based on the pay increase though I doubt I would trade coasting for in office requirements and challenging work every day for 87% increase - unless you really needed the money. I’ve honestly saved enough that trade wouldn’t be worth it to me. I’d rather coast and spend the extra time on things I like doing.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Why would you want a job? I’ve never had a proper job.

87% pay bump comes with 87% more responsibility. Assuming you were making median income ($62,000+), a 87% raise puts you at $115,000. Once you break 6 figures its typical that people actually work. You hear about these cushy 6 figure jobs where its no stress and exactly 40 hours. That's for boomers who sat on their job for 20 years and slowly grew into that role. For the up and cooomers you gotta work for it. That's great pay if correct, you'll adapt over the next few weeks and it'll become baseline. Or you wont and you'll go bald and ruin relationships and blow through the money and have nothing to show for it expect a career in ashes and your health in the gutters. Good luck brah, most of us will make it!

How much were you making remote?

I had to give up a low stress, fully remote position in 2022 at age 25 because I was only earning $35k/yr. Once Biden’s inflation hit, I started to fall underwater, could barely afford groceries and the best they could offer me was a 2.9% raise.

So I left for a job paying around $50k (at the time). It was RTO 5 days a week and I became a more miserable person than I’d ever been in my entire adult life.

But I really had no choice if I wanted to stay afloat.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. An 87% pay increase is phenomenal and you’re still hybrid? That sounds like a win boyo.
