My home boy with 17 children went to be with Jesus
I used to follow this guy and watch his YouTubes because I thought the family was interesting, living out at Slab City, but I found out that he died a few months ago. I'm pretty bummed. It turns out he has had a hard time.

His daughter posted this heartbreaker about him:
Today marks two months without Dad.
I’ve been trying to find the words to ask for help for our family while also shedding light on how our father died. The truth is, Dad chose a slow suicide. There is nothing peaceful about this kind of loss, and it leaves behind a lifetime of guilt, regret, and questions that only Jesus can truly help heal.If you knew our father, you knew the passion he had for life and how deeply he loved his family. His form of departure is still incredibly hard to fathom.I never fully understood mental illness. I always viewed it as a spiritual attack — something he himself instilled in me. He truly believed salt water, sweat, Whole Foods, and prayer could heal almost anything.
A few months back, he told me, “I don’t have the balls to take my own life, but starving myself is taking too long.”My response was shallow. I said, “Get up, Dad. You’re needed. Get your shit together. Where is your will?”With complete clarity and humility, he answered:“Sweetheart… I have lost my will.”
The last 10–15 years of his life were filled with one unfortunate event after another. He cried out for help, and when he needed us most, we failed him. Every single one of us believed his past strength would somehow carry him through. We held onto who he used to be instead of seeing the depth of the pain he was living in.It’s still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that he made this possible. You would think survival instincts would eventually kick in.
Dad was found deceased on the side of a road in the California desert:Raphael — the man, the myth, the legend —with $1.67 in his pocket.
The coroner’s report confirmed malnutrition and dehydration as the cause of death.
Raphael fathered 17 children — 4 with my mother and 13 with Mai. Eleven of those children are still at home with her, nine under the age of 18.My brothers Dylan (22) and Nathan (20) have stepped into the role of men of the house. They work nonstop, taking odd moving jobs and starting a window cleaning company — not for personal gain, but simply to help the family survive.Recently, one of the family’s two vehicles broke down, and as much as Dad taught us to do things ourselves, sometimes a mechanic is needed.
Ultimately, we would love for Maileina and the younger children to move closer to some of us older siblings so we can help carry the weight together. We’re all raising children ourselves, and it truly takes a village. We want the older kids to eventually have the freedom to spread their wings instead of carrying burdens far beyond their years. For now, my mission is simply to help alleviate some of the financial burden this family is facing. If you feel led to help, pray, share, or contribute in any way, our family would be deeply grateful.
