I like doing stuff like that in the weekdays when most people are at work lol. The world just kind of opens up.

I have seven telescopes, I have taken pictures with them and written articles that have published in science magazines.
I am a member of astronomical societies where I get to learn from men who have literally found and subsequently named stars. My favorite part of this type of community is the public outreach. Sharing a passion is a fucking gift.
I am an astronomy and space exploration merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts.
I actually got to do an interview with a NASA astrophysicist as part of a project I put together with the help of my local military installation public affairs office. It was in reference to the total solar eclipse in August of 2021. I had a bunch of equipment and experiments set up. Multiple solar telescopes etc. The whole community came out. It was amazing.
A typical night for me alone doing my own work involves setting up some serious equipment including multiple telescopes and cameras. I try to be in as isolated places as possible to avoid light pollution. Good music in the background, develop a list of objects I want to look at, get in the zone, look through eyepiece and just get lost in an amazingly beautiful universe.

First one is a smaller newtonian reflector telescope, the laser sight is somewhat helpful but mostly a flex. chicks dig it lol
second is the most sophisticated piece of science equipment I have ever owned and it cost more than most miscers cars. An amazing piece of equipment, 10 inch diameter cassegrain
Third is my very first telescope and will always have a spot in my heart. a whooping 12 inch diameter dobsonian. You can see the cassegrain without its stand here

Without the appropriate filter/eyepiece you would burn your eyes right out of your skull. I have to use tinted filters when looking at the full moon lol.

Iridium Flares are communication satellites that have extremely reflective panels on them. There are apps that track them so you can be ready to see them. Satellites light up the night sky, but your brain doesn't typically give them any attention. The first time you learn how to see them, you can't unsee them. Every single time you are outside, opp there is a satellite, oh look over there, that is a satellite lol. You can't turn it off once your brain sees it. Your brain doesn't see them until someone shows you. It is like they don't exist, then it is all that exists lol. Kind of like how when you buy a new car you see it all over the road.

And finally, some picture of the primary source of energy in this system we operate in.....
This is what the Sun looks like through the dobsonian, no extra filters, so this is the entire visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Those are sun spots..
This was a partial solar eclipse in like 2013/2014. I got the cops called on me lol. That happens quite a bit when you stargaze. Only the lucky cops get those calls, they about see some cool shit.
same eclipse through the dobsonian, you can see the wisps of clouds that add a great effect, the Moon in front of the Sun, and some sunspots. pretty nifty photograph...
This was from an eclipse in like 2023 or something....
This was taken with a solar dedicated dual hydrogen alpha filtered telescope, so almost all of the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is filtered out. That give the ability to see the solar flares and makes the red tint. Solar Flares and an eclipse.....amazing
