depends on you define greatest. influential for Rock? maybe. but that might be more a product of his time...being a black, his style, other players not having as much notoriety, etc.

many jazz guitarists are technically better. maybe even SRV is better. maybe even John Mayer is better.

can't really compare musician to musician similar to actors being compared. Verne Troyer played a great dwarf but Ben Affleck couldn't play the same part (at least believably).

No... There is no "best" only peoples "favorite"... EVH and Rory Gallagher did things Jimi never did technically.
Doesnt make them 'better'...

Tons of wizards out there w/ amazing technical skills, but cant write a good hook...
