Fernando Wood (June 14, 1812 – February 13, 1881) was an American Democratic Party politician, merchant, and real estate investor who served as the 74th and 76th mayor of New York City.[a] He also represented the city for several terms in the United States House of Representatives.

Fernando Wood was born in Philadelphia on June 14, 1812.[1] His Spanish forename was chosen by his mother, who found it in The Three Spaniards, an English gothic novel written by George Walker.[2]
