opening 20 minutes:
The year is 1865, group of confederate soldiers either defeats or robs a Yankee train that was carrying payroll-money for soldiers, they end up with $12,000 (split up among a handful of guys... was like they could each buy a business/ranch with it). Leader of the Confederate group is an ethical guy though and says they should hand it over to their General and let him decide what to do with it.
On way back to camp run into a couple of ragged confederate soldiers, they're like "Havent you heard?? the Civil War is OVER! We lost to the North, Lee surrendered!" Confederate gang is like WTF? so they split the money evenly among themselves since there is no more war. They also split up and go back to their own hometowns.
the Conferederate leader of the gang has kept a picture-locket of the girl from his hometown he loves (they're kinda just been friends though). He has been dreaming of marrying her and loved her for 4 years while fighting the Yanks.
He buys gifts for her and his family with newfound money. When in his hometown, finds out that everyone in his town thought he was killed in the War. Not only that but the girl he loves survived having her own family getting slaughtered and she NOW lives with his mother and his younger brother. So he goes home and lo and behold since everyone thought he was dead, his younger brother, Mr. Elvis Presley, married the girl he has been in love with.
MIND BLOWN!!! I was like WTF is this cinematic gold???? Just the fact that Elvis doesn't appear for over 20min is wild beginning and just like Tarantino movies... there is more going on later.
highly recommend.
