Germany was a strong contender, but not like France, Argentina, or Spain. A lot of their hype came from their reputation as 4x World Cup champs .

USA did stomp Paraguay, and people dismissed it as “Paraguay is a scrub team.” It could be that USA just matched up to them better, Paraguay made adjustments since that loss, or USA is stronger than people think
