I thought it was a cool movie and a cool take on vampires.

If black people upset you then don't bother.

But i dont like normalizing these black vs white themes on movies. Just make a black vampire flick without the white hostility

It's pretty good. I rated it an 8.0/10 after I saw it

It's ambitious, with some thoughtful messages and metaphors. There is an overall grand and epic feel to the story. Michael B. Jordan is fantastic in the double role. There's one scene where Smoke and Stack's cousin sings and plays the guitar: the scene becomes like a dream.

In terms of flaws - Michael B Jordan's character Smoke gets a romance with an actress named Wunmi Mosaku, who isn't right for the role. Michael B Jordan is too far out of her league to be her boyfriend. Early, the characters find out that vampires can't enter a dwelling unless invited. The result is that the vampires just hang out and sing/dance outside the dwelling for most of the movie, which became a drag. The vampires are also not scary at all in this film. I don't wish to spoil, but there's one scene near the very end involving a gunfight - this scene feels oddly unsatisfying even when the victims deserve it; it just feels like the filmmakers merely wanted to get this one part in before the credits rolled.
