A lot of yall don’t understand inflation

Things that exist in a free market have actually gone down in cost inflation is the worse with things that are given to retards for free housing, healthcare, food, the reason it’s expensive to you is 1/3 people get it for free.

I've been saying the US is overpopulated for years by like 100 million people (1/3 roughly).

From what ive read, the problem isn't inflation. Our wages have mostly kept up with inflation. The problem is housing, cars, etc. have outpaced inflation and our wages.

its both, our wages haven't kept up

but, cars have also progress drastically technologically, so it makes sense they'd outpace inflation some, I think.

I agree with this. Last week I was eating at Subway, where I ordered a $6.99 footlong. Some black girl who was maybe 20 years old walked in, and telling the pahjeets her entire life story, she was from the city and moved away, etc. She gets her footlong sub at full price, something like $16.25 and swipes her card and walks out. Absolutely zero chance this girl isn't on some form of public assistance, at the very least she has food stamps for her daily groceries.

We are in a very strange economy right now. Most consumer goods have two sets of pricing. One that is a ridiculous "full price" paid by wealthy boomers and younger people on government assistance, and then they have secret app discounts which are paid by middle class people who actually work for a living. I would imagine the stores are breaking even on the middle class pricing, and then making their profits from the boomers and government assistance folks.

Yep! Immigration is destroying us financially.

To OP's point, we then get taxed so government can give "free" stuff for the same basket of goods we are trying to buy, driving up prices.

Yeah, I mean it's pretty wild how reliable most cars are nowadays compared to those from 1980-2010. It's understandable that cars cost more now, because they're simply a much better product than was put out 15+ years ago. In the past, any car was in the shop for a ton of little nonsense items after about 3-4 years on the road.

this is a good point. a lot of pricing preys on the uneducated, rich who don't care, or "not my money" types

I think cars are a great example. everyone talks about insane car pricing, but the high MSRPs are left over from covid supply chain issues. you can get 10%+ off MSRP on most cars right now. but if you just walk in without educating yourself, CSB brah is going to give you 2k off plus $1500 in dealer add ons, roll it into the payment and you'll think you did good.

This is all happening because the US Government wants to normalize the interest rate curve. From 1980-2020, they had to keep lowering interest rates and the markets would throw a fit from any rise in interest rates.

In 2020, they finally had the opportunity to fix this. They threw a ton of cash into the economy before raising interest rates, and are now in a position where they are trying to buffer all of the negative impacts of this normalization cycle. This involves throwing a lot of cash at poor people so they aren't rioting in the street while the process plays out.

So far, so good. They have kept interest rates high for about 4 years now, which we are only 1-2 years away from most debt being at the higher levels and therefore the interest rate curve is normalized.

far better safety, better mpg, ride quality, etc... almost any car feels luxurious now compared to a 90s car (if you value that stuff)

Um 1990-2008 was like peak Toyota reliability

Everything is cvt, high compression small engines, way more electronics ect, screens to control everything, the engines run so much hotter, the cooling pump has to run a bit even after you turn the car off , they removed spare tires from most cars. Parts availability for a lot of new cars is bad too

Only in a few areas did they make it better. Probably electric steering is the best example and that made the feeling worse

I had a 2005 Corolla should t have sold it. Non interference engine with a timing chain. No touch screens.

Guy just bought a Nissan CUV it has a 3 cylinder turbo engine, a cvt and touch screens to control your AC that will delaminate and need replacing for sure after the warranty period. Engine bay really cramped and hard to get your hands in. Interference engine that requires replacement jd the timing chain breaks

I only read the first few posts but a thought came to my mind when seeing the arguments, perhaps someone addressed this later in the thread

The OP mentioned the problem of people being given so much free shit that others who actually pay for it foot the bill. That made me think of another way poorcels acquire luxuries which seems like it would have even more relevance to prices. The easy access to credit. If everyone is able to be a consumer and keep accumulating debt, there's no slowdown in demand for overpriced products since a bunch of dumb fucks with credit will pay whatever price

Everyone i know has a professional job making 100-300k/year with a partner who makes the same. They all have houses, luxury cars, kids. I feel like actual struggling people are a loud minority.
