someone from LA please kill my dreams right now of moving there and pursueing acting

Just turned 26 and realize that I will have to move there if I want to become an actor. Thing is I cannot afford to live in LA.. Maybe I'm just making excuses.. I mean I have a degree and I could get a job there somewhere in engineering but dat cost of living/pipe dream goals.

I'm from Detroit and it's absolute chit everywhere you go. I work in the ghetto and its depressing as ****. I know there's more to life than this. I was in Hawaii earlier this year and it really changed my outlook on things. All I knew was Detroit and poverty.

I work hard as **** but I cant think of any good ideas to create a company from or I already would have done that.

So,

1) Become an actor (would have to move to LA)
2) Become streamer on twitch (could do right now but would take 3-4 years to build a following)
3) Think of a good idea and make a company and ceo10k/day.
4) Continue working my engineering job making $70k a year with weekends off

I feel like I'm at a crossroads in life right now. I don't wanna have regrets when I'm 50. Maybe I'm just hard on myself but I dream every day of REALLY going after it. I need to go down one of these paths. Its stressing me the fck out everyday.

Anyone know these feels? Any advice from LA brahs? Should I give up on my dreams?

Cliffs: There isen't any.

nm I just reread...

if you moved to LA and got an engineering job, wouldn't the salary be higher due to higher cost of living? If so, don't see what the issue is really. Move, get a new job and pursue acting on the side.

You should go there and try to do it.

Just for the experience of it. Its about the journey.

Realistically don't expect to make it or even get any legit jobs or auditions.

But the lifestyle surrounding trying to make it and the people there are worth the experience alone.

Just go in knowing you'll never make it but still try. The industry as it were barely even exists, and it will never be like in the golden era of hollywood again, but know at least you are pursuing your dreams.

And just that act can be calming to your existential crisis of the ego.

I'm not an actor. I made the thread because I was interested in the craft of acting.

Some interesting info in there if you care to look through it.

Both. TBH I don't even wanna be famous I just wanna make a loott of money (like everyone else in the world). I think acting would be a fcking awesome job and have always wanted to do it. Growing up in Detroit there's not much opportunity to do that though.

If you want to make loads of money, there are probably better avenues of doing so. If you want to make loads of money through acting in Hollywood then you need to be very handsome or be a very talented and passionate actor + have connections. At least that's how I see it.

I'm sorry, I was lying to you.

I do know the son of a big time Hollywood producer, though.

Well OP think about it this way; Competition for any job these days is staggeringly high. Even entry level jobs have 20+ people applying for them. Obviously the competition will be tougher for any acting jobs, but as mentioned earlier everyone is struggling to get a job these days. Go for it brah, and I'll see you in 4-5 years when I'm ready for my turn in L.A.

Why not get an engineering job in la while trying to become an actor?

I used to attend church at Hillsong LA. Many celebrities (Beiber, Tebow, Kevin Durant) are regulars there, so it's become a haven for wannabe actors and models.

I volunteered with dozens of 10/10 Chad fitness model looking dudes who couldn't get a gig. Lots of them ended up being approached to do gay porn in the end (Srs). Some refused it, some didn't.

I also volunteered with lots of women you'd swear were famous models. One group had just agreed to go to ***** for a "private party" because they needed the money.

There is no shortage of gorgeous, talented people here. Unless you know the right person, it's entirely luck if you make it. And it's one of the most expensive places in America to live. Which makes for a terrible situation.

line up a job before you get here, i don't know what type of engineering you do, but see if you can get in at a studio, building backgrounds or movie sets or something. make industry connections then hit on the casting directors( most are females or gay), casting couch bruh...its a real thing

You could always live outside of LA and commute for auditions.

Why don't you move to LA and become a twitch streamer while you try to land acting jobs and feel out the market for a business you can start. If all else fails, use your degree.

Honestly, being a producer is an easier way to get rich and rub shoulders with the Hollywood stars. Basically you just use other people's money to pay other people to make movies. Gotta be a hustler, though.
