Thanks OP, makes me feel better about my situation srs. Divorced a little over 5 years now, paid the ex about $5.5k/month plus a couple of lump sums (40-50k) and lost a retirement account and the marital home when we divorced. Wish I was lying, thankfully alimony ended after 2 years (she went for lifetime and failed) so now I *only* pay ~2k/mo in child support for 2 kids until they're 20.

That was for almost 10 years of marriage. Divorce laws are crazy for sure. No way in hell would I do it again knowing what I know now.

can someone explain to me why it is that the girl gets half+monthly payments+the fukking house of all things in the US? genuinely curious

With divorce whatever money was made by the couple during the marriage should be split unless its clearly unreasonable, and if they got the house together then either sell it and split the money or buy the other party out. Whatever you had going in you keep the value of to yourself, as well as any inheritance/gifts meant for you...

holy fuk at how cucked you guys are with your marriage laws

That's not how it works m8 the marital assets are combined and then split down the middle and yes the breadwinner usually suffers while the dependent rakes it in.

That's why if you marry always marry at your level to avoid this.

What type of lifestyle does he have at the moment?

Firstly, I would LDAR if someone was paying me $4500 a month.

Second, I remember a friend of mine paying around $5k a month to his ex wife for about 4 years. When it ended she still had not gotten a job and ended up getting evicted. It was glorious.

I know of someone paying their ex-wife $33k a month in alimony. He's a moron though. Cheated on his wife for a younger woman and knocked her up. Sounds fun and all but not worth $396,000 a year.

Lmao @ being so blinded by tradition that you disregard common sense

Fun fact, the percentage of men receiving alimony was 3% last time I checked, but better put a ring on it because it couldn't possibly be a meaningful relationship otherwise. Lol!

Its ridiculous... the concept of divorcing yourself to a fortune is disgusting srs. marry into one, thats fine, but when you leave then fukking bye bye to the money as well. How some of these sloots get huge montlhy payments to "maintain the lifestyle" is patently fukked, you split up with whoever makes the money ofc your lifestyle changes, no one is entitled to be well off just cause they took a load

tbh if youre wealthy and dont get a prenup you done played yourself tho. 6/10 times it wont last, and its nothing personal thats just statistics baby

Over the years when me bro or sis asked him for money hed tell us our mom has it, in like a salty mad tone. It kind of made him look like the ass to us and our mom as so giving. Of course we didnt kno though. Makes me sad thinkin back

And the PMTs stopped last year so he got a new home on the water with boats docked in the backyard just what he always wanted. and said he had the best year of his life so many times. even had dinner with my my mom. love seeing him happy.

so this chit aint the end of the world

Man, I agree with you 350% on this.

All alimony should be is a small allotment to get started. That's it not a penny more.

He gave her the house because of me, my bro and my sis. Only reason. You should understand that part.

Yeah send my mom off to an apartment with nothing and we have to live there?
