I consider firemen as public servants worthy of great respect. Please don't call them tradesmen

Tradesmen there get paid like $5.00 a day. Not sure what point ur tryin to make op.

Even in the US unless you're in a niche trade, family (or self) owned business, or a really really good Union, you'll probably be freezing ur arse off in January doing carpentry work for $12 an hour for the first few years in hopes of getting bumped to $15-$20.

Gotta lol at the Trades vs STEM debate for a couple of reasons:

1) For 98% of tradies, it wasn't a choice. They never had the option of STEM.
2) Tradies don't realise that if the STEM students started flooding into the trades on mass like they suggest, demand for their work would decline and they'd be making less money or be out of work.

I don't think you realize that businesses usually don't fire people to hire other people, unless they **** up.

Also STEM students lack businesses experience, and have gone soft from staring at blue light for 8 hours every day.

The way I see it, college is the place to develop new chit so that trades will have better tools etc. Trades just maintain whatever needs to be done like changing oil out of a car. So what position do you think is more prestiege? The developer or the applier.

Trades are in demand right now. Way less schooling than a typical 4 year degree, and right off the bat you can make bank.

Dedication, education, respect, and money = loser

For every person I know with a degree who actually makes over 50k I know 4 who make over 50k in trades....in the south.

It all depends where you live, what trade, what degree etc...
Know plenty of guys in trades who are now supervisors and ****

Nothing wrong with working a trade. I think working a trade is pretty cool, but when you turn around and start complaining about not making enough money....then LOL, What did you expect.

1. "Getting to know the outside world" wtf does this even mean? BRB you can't know the outside world unless you are an electrician, plumber, carpenter, etc. = Strong logic. Not everyone who works white color jobs work in a cubicle, and not everyone who works blue collar spend most of their day outside

2. Whatever "tons of money" means, it isn't exclusive to working a trade

3. 4 years of your life is not a long time at all...especially if it means getting a bachelors degree. 4 years is nothing in the long term. Not sure if srs.

4. You do realize tradesmen need degrees, certs too, right? Do these things just come out of the sky or do you go to a school for them?

Not a single talking point was seen that day
