the US is one of those strange places where people are taught that you HAVE to travel outside of the country. there are literally no benefits to it other than seeing iconic places like the pyramids. however, the real experience from the pyramids and wherever else is that you will get hassled for money. The new tactic is to instigate tourists to try to shake them down for money as well. I mean get it, can you imagine going to jail in one of those countries trying to explain self-defense.

Not travelling to tourist rich places that often, and never as a flex.
It's just nice to get out sometimes and experience something new and it doesn't have to include going abroad either.
I like to research places beforehand so can combine trips with some hobbies and other interests (history etc.)
I might go to a place with some specific wildlife closeby to photograph, and rich history so can see old ruins and local museums. Then I try to go when maybe there's some nostalgic concert as well for older ppl - alphaville, Kim Wild etc so can have a night of drinking as well. Or some other cool events.
It's just nice to get out sometimes and experience something new and it doesn't have to include going abroad either.
