It's called The Matrix...something will have to power those machines.

RN is still a safe bet, but EN is an equivalent safe bet with the aged care market.

the big variable you're leaving out is that the human brain still had better processing power than computers.

creating a computer system with stronger power than a human brain will take us "over the hump" into the new paradigm.

I heard that what you have been taught at school will no longer be taught to kids who are in primary schools today and they will eliminate most subjects/degrees.

Make your kids choose their careers wisely, scary times ahead.

Well I can't account for the un-accountable, but maybe I shouldn't say it's impossible.

In my opinion, we will adapt to changes in technology as we always have and human ingenuity will continue to provide us with emerging markets with jobs to perform.

maybe I'm optimistic, but what is wrong with humans enjoying the outdoors and instead of needing jobs/work, just let the robots create the "new economy" for us?

If AI takes off the correct way, it might only take a few weeks for the exponential gain of AI to eliminate nearly every job on earth.

every emerging market would be invented/crushed by AI.

the human brain does NOT develop nearly as fast as Moore's law curve with computer processing power. Computers are a completely different animal, and will leave human intelligence in the dust once it catches momentum un-aided by humans..

I'm livid that the majority of programmers today are so money hungry that they are willing to develop chit that may screw us over. Recently, there was this article about having TEACHING become automated. So that we can be more "productive." R U serious??? It's called being aware of the consequence of your code. It just doesn't live in a vacuum. Especially in a time where it wields such commanding power. This is the reason why I had to turn down some internship offers. When software companies' main objective is making money instead of solving problems, it makes me cringe. We actually have the knowledge and technology to impact the world in a positive manner, but we choose phuckin money all the time.

At first, I was elated to see the huge influx of kids into CS at my school. I naively thought "more brains = more power to solve these issues." But that's not the phuckin case. Most of them copy each other's code and just change variable names. They only care about the supposed wealth that CS brings. Little do they know, with some effort and some conviction, they CAN actually change the world. It eats away at me man. Legit makes me sad

Old school programmers cared about the impact their code had. Where did we go wrong???.....
By saying we, I assume you are also a programmer. If so, I believe we both don't ever have the intention of taking away someone's pay check. You go to work and simply do your job. If you want to blame somebody, blame the company you're doing work for, to eliminate the need of humans for that task.

You're optimistic about the future when robots/computers are our masters... and I'm the one writing science fiction?

If the future you foresee becomes reality, I don't think I share your optimism.

We wouldn't need jobs though. We wouldn't need to adapt. We could live without trying to perpetuate some outdated economic system.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds, for the ashes of his fathers, and the temples of his gods?

Moore's Law is simply physical, it's about transistors and Moore's law has come to an end, Intel hit a wall and had to delay their 10nm architecture and that's likely the end of the road with silicon.

Perhaps you have been out of the loop, but all good things have to come to an end.

Both excited and nervous for the future, but one thing I feel strongly about is a lot of people are extremely over exaggerated with their opinions on what the "future" will bring.

Explain? If you're projecting into the indefinite future I think think almost nothing is off the table and most things being talked about will be possible at some point

Maybe. You're talking about it as though it's a fact. We're literally talking about science fiction right now.

The past is always the best predictor of the future though, and the past shows us adapting technology in the benefit us in the way I described.

fiction based on imagined future scientific or technological advancesand major social or environmental changes, frequently portraying space or time travel and life on other planets.

Bigger and better things... like space exploration, moon mining, gas harvesting, etc. Somebody's gotta plan, execute and oversee stuff like this + new developments. R&D, etc. Jobs will be less low-brow for the most part.

There will be a basic income of like 2000 a month, so everyone will be a poor ass slave peasant. Probably have to do simple tasks like mowing the lawn and cleaning the house of your 1% overlords

Wake me up when it happens. I'm 31 now and it seems fuk all has happened for awhile now.

World wide Web going mainstreem and advancements in cellphones are the two biggest changes in my lifetime so far.
You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told you're a god or a total bastard. The iron always kicks you the real deal. It's the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. I have found it to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But 200 pounds is always 200 pounds.
