All jokes aside, both are good and trades isn't for everyone. I know someone who makes $43 p/h as a plumber and he's only 20 and a work colleague of mine cleared 300k last year in sales.

Me myself, my health always comes first that's why I chose not to go into trades, did a pre-app in Plumbing when I was about 17 and quit after 2 months and decided it's not for me. Each to their own.

STEM is for nerds too. Sales & Marketing and Business is where it's at.

I believe only 5% of all traders are successful another 95% will lose their money anyway.

honestly its gonna take a long time before robots can read blueprints, then go and gather appropriate materials, install hanging devices for pipe/duct then raise pipe into position and secure it with bolts/screws etc. the robot would also have to cut holes precisely into walls or ceilings. the robot would have to either be quipped with several tools or be able to hold onto several tools or be able to recognize appropriate tools for the occasion.

thats gonna be one smart ass ****ing robot if it can do all that without a mind.

imagine the amount of programming.

also it would have to be able to solve problems in the schematics (because it happens all the time) and coordiante with other trades/material being in the way.

4. You do realize tradesmen need degrees, certs too, right? Do these things just come out of the sky or do you go to a school for them?

right, because most 9-5 workers don't work in a city building. brb you can't get to know girls or nature because your workplace has 4 walls and a ceiling.

The key is to be smart and go into a trade. I have a bachelors in business admin which isn't all that impressive. But compared to the guys I work with I may as well be Stephen Hawking.

I make bank as the lowest paid guy in the company, and it won't be long until I fly up the ladder and don't have to get my hands dirty.

Once the setup and actual robots become cheap it will be all over.

A lot of existing companies aren't going to spend the $ on robots + the overhaul of facilities for the robots to operate.

I majored in computer science. I'm retired at 31 (not 28 as my username suggests, made fast).

I don't see how that ceiling is even possible in any trade, entrepreneur or not. In many STEM subjects you have the tools to literally invent products from your fcking basement, with no start-up capital at all (which I did).

If you have the intellectual capacity to get a degree in EE/CE/CS, do it. But yes a trade is of course far better than lesbian dance theory with a minor in microagressions, no chit.

Im going to be a PT which is now required to have a doctorate degree. I know many individuals in the trades will end up making more than me with much less education. I think the fact that we constsntly have these threads on the MISC about trades vs college happens because there is a notion in society that people in the trades are lower class, not as good as other people, etc. The people that look down on tradesmen are usually liberal arts "thinkers" and the typical business admin graduates making 40k in call centers.

No skilled job should be looked down upon by others just because it does not require traditional education. A tradesmen certainly receives just as much learning as someone in marketing, its just a different type. Psychomotor, problem solving, etc.

Still, there are negatives to consider when going into the trades. Ive seen my fair share of patients and most individuals coming into the clinics ive worked in dont simply have one kind of pain or impairment--they have degeneration of multiple joints, diffuse pain everywhere, etc. Its not to say you cannot be a healthy tradesmen, but physical labor does wear the body out faster than the typical office worker,

College is not for everyone, but neither is trade school. What works for one person doesn't always work for everyone else, so I think it's important for everyone to find what works for them.

Absolutely this. Unless you're the head engineer or a union delegate(requiring 4 year degrees) you're gonna be miserable and broken down. I got outta that shyt real quick once I realized how it was.

Plus nobody wants to say "i weld things foe a living" or " I install furnaces"

Same, I work for a mail company and they are too cheap to staff the place correctly so they sure aren't overhauling the 30+year old building any time soon.
