Agree 100% with the bold part. I wouldn't even mind if there wasn't the blatant coping hypocrisy about how it was the kindest thing to do or whatever. No nation in war ever takes that into consideration, they want to destroy their enemy, whatever it takes to surrender. Nuketech of peace obviously made that possible in an extremely efficient way. But please cut the bullchit and stop pretending the US government nuked civilian cities for humanitarian reasons ffs.

We also tried to get the civilians to leave, we warned them over and over again with fliers dropped out of bombers and they refused to leave the area (not surprising given their fanatic religious nature but at least we tried).

August 9. That was the day that the Supreme Council met — for the first time in the war — to discuss unconditional surrender.
The Supreme Council was a group of six top members of the government — a sort of inner cabinet — that effectively ruled Japan in 1945. Japan’s leaders had not seriously considered surrendering prior to that day.
The bombing of Nagasaki occurred in the late morning of August 9, after the Supreme Council had already begun meeting to discuss surrender, and word of the bombing only reached Japan’s leaders in the early afternoon — after the meeting of the Supreme Council had been adjourned in deadlock and the full cabinet had been called to take up the discussion. Based on timing alone, Nagasaki can’t have been what motivated them.
Also... the preliminary report prepared by the Army team that investigated the Hiroshima bombing, the one that gave details about what had happened there, was not delivered until August 10. It didn’t reach Tokyo, in other words, until after the decision to surrender had already been taken. Although their verbal report was delivered (to the military) on August 8, the details of the bombing were not available until two days later. The decision to surrender was therefore not based on a deep appreciation of the horror at Hiroshima.

Just lol if you don't think that a Soviet buildup in Asia and the impending Cold War weren't the drivers to use "the bomb" in Asia. Truman had a lot going on, and the least of his problems was the actual situation in Japan. He managed to justify the spending on Manhattan project, impress the Russians, and give Americans and Japanese one fine story they could go forward with all with one decision (i.e. drop the bombs).

War isn't supposed to be a good thing, it's about survival.
They bombed Pearl Harbor and joined the Nazis and we retaliated....the end.
President Truman clearly didn't want to drop it, but he did so in necessity. It was either that or throw away American lives(and our allies) to end it.
Before you say, "American and Allies lives aren't worth more than Japanese." remember they were not our friends at the time and were trying to kill us.
If you and a friend(USA and Allies) were attacked by two random people, would you just fight it with fists out knowing you'd kill the other guys but probably let your friend die....or would you just pull out a gun, kill one of the guys and let the other live and run away and save yourself and your friend?

If Americans can justify killing hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians then there should be no regulation of war.
Anything goes, anything that any side in history has done can be immediately justified by saying 'but oh it saved lives in the end'.
And for all those *******s saying Australia and the rest of Asia would be Japanese land think again.
Hitler wouldn't have allowed it.
Germany and Japan weren't as close as you think, Germany armed nationalist Chinese battalions to fight against the Japanese.

I was 26, and having a debate with my then GF. Smartest girl I ever knew, was no coincidence she was Hungarian.
She was trying to inform me on the possibility that there's no such thing as purely good and purely bad, and I brought up Hiroshima as "purely bad". She didn't use the arguments that Miscers are using in this thread, only that a powerful dictator who could have killed millions may have died as a child there. I still didn't listen, thought she was nuts. Suffice to say I engaged in a lot of emotional thinking back then, didn't even know what a fallacy was.
I ended up doing a lot of reading after that day. Seeing this thread reminds me of when I started to engage in logical thinking.

Use probably set modern day science back 200 years. We could all have flying cars by now if this didn't happen.

Americans: we're dropping these fliers for the next month to let people know we're about to drop this dangerous-ass bomb on their city that will level everything. they better get out
Japanese: lol...wut? comet me brah
Americans: enola gay...go
Japanese: oh sh*t, oh sh*t sun exploded
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

A. To end the war we would have had to invade mainland Japan. Which would have been many times more casualties on both sides.
B. Germany & Japan would have both developed nukes within a year or so... RIP fukking every human being in Europe and Asia and welcome the end of the world..

There's honestly no bigger cope on this earth than how people try to rationalise these nukes. If one innocent American is killed by ISIS there's people literally crying on TV and demanding revenge. But 200,000 innocent Japanese murdered and decades of birth defects and radiation poisoning and it's all, "well their nation became economically successful afterwards so maybe these nukes were just the leg-up they needed!"
