It's cool that OP backed his claims, but it's still pretty ignorant to hate on sumo and assume it magically makes you 100 lbs stronger. It doesn't.

It's still pretty difficult. I do both, and my sumo is only 10 lbs more than my conventional. But I bet I could get my conventional to match it pretty quickly.

Don't knock something til you try it.

If you prefer conventional - its fine. But I dont get hating on someone who decides to pull something that requires more technique and can move more weight because of that.
In my opinion its like hating on a person who can bench more by using an arch. Powerlifting is about moving more weight - period. And thats the main goal. Doesnt matter how you do it.
I don't cosign that arch chit. A little bit yeah, but that full arch where you have a 2 inch rom is gay AF

I was only half srs.

Ed coan is my face powerlifter of all time and he did both. I will always prefer conventional but you guys do your thang. Not a fan of it but end of the day we're all lifting some heavy was weight and getting jacked

I do? Lol. I'm kinda glad I filmed it because I never realised my starting position was like that. Looks odd to me, like I feel I should be sitting lower into it.

I'm not gonna adjust to lifting sumo just to prove people wrong. I have tweaked my deadlift form over time, didn't just randomly do it and stick with it. Change things here and there, would take way too long to do the same with sumo

Well I agree - yet its the way the sport evolved. I also find it slightly retarded, but a group of professionals that live and die by the sport have agreed that it counts, so that pbbly means that its about equally as hard.
Its like Bill Koch using the "skate skiing" technique, which was, at first, looked at as an incorrect technique yet it got the job done and now about 50% of cross country skiers do it. There will always be someone who does things differently - doesnt mean its easier or worse. It just means that it works better for him and by mastering a different (and in some cases more difficult) technique one can achieve a better result. I think its worth admiring not hating.

And what is the problem with that?????? Should they do stiff legged deadlifts instead so they can't lift more? No, the goal is to fukkin lift more so they should use whatever technique that allows them to do that. I don't do sumo but have zero problem with other people doing it. Only reason I do conventional is because for me it works better. If I could lift more with sumo I would. It would be stupid not to use the best technique for your body.

do you agree with the arch rule them we were discussing above? You know where the arch is so pronounced that the Rom is LITERALLY 2 inches.

ultimately - I hear you man. I think it just depends on the particular technique sometimes. Some chit I agree with, and some chit I don't. i really do hate that arch rule, i could probably do it myself and bench more but id rather not, I don't know man I've always been a honest person with pride that played by the rules. Even in high school id hate/be against using chest codes for games whilst all my mates did. Never used them. Its just embedded in me to do shiit the right way and not look for shortcuts. Always wanted to be the best of the best and do it the right way.

As long as they are within the rules of the competition it doesn't matter. As far as the 2 inches ROM, same thing happens with really fat guys or guys with really short arm (especially if they're fat and have short arms). I don't have a problem with them or the arching *******s.

Yes I think arching extremely looks retarded as do fat people with T-Rex arms. But it doesn't bother me and I don't think it's cheating to use an arch or to be a short fat guy because....it's not cheating. Only way something is cheating if it is against the rules of a competition.

Yeah i know technically it's within the rules, but I think the people who control the rules should enforce rules that dont make the sport look like a joke.

I understand logically you're right, and being fair, but I just think it's gay. Like i said earlier it feels as though the sport has just reached a point where people find a legal loop hole and take advantage. But each to his own.

Semi agree. People saturate the **** out of those sites with every lift they do. Id only post something worth discussing if I were to post my chit on there, not just constantly post all the fukin time for the sake of it

lolz. I don't want to be that dismissive, but I don't feel I should ever have to look at certain lifts in a sport and feel disinterested and slightly let down. That's the feeling I get sometimes and just sigh.

I used to think like this too OP until I tried sumo. I was expecting to lift way more but I actually pull more conventional. I just started pulling sumo though so we'll see if this changes after a few weeks. Sumo just feels a lot better given my body's morphology. I have relatively short arms and long legs so it's basically impossible for me to pull conventional without a little bit of rounding.

They should just make them unrack the bar without a spotter. Would probably stop people from using extreme arches to abuse the rules like that.

Do what cha gotta do mane. And yeah I think it should be revised and discussed. I'd like to see some changes to powerlifting, I feel it isnt known or appreciated enough as other/similar sports.
