Not too sure. But in my sophomore year a kid hung himself.

It was absolute mayhem. Big assembly, people running through the halls crying, grief counsellors.

I remember obviously feeling bad but everyone changed their Facebook photo to his picture and I was asked to do the same. I didn’t feel comfortable with it because we weren’t friends or anything. Felt like it would have been insincere and fake.

I remember for the entire year girls would ask to leave the classroom because they were in distress over it and I’m thinking to myself you never even spoke to this kid when he was alive and now you’re distressed over it.

1 died in car accident graduation year, and 1 died of OD in 2020 during the covid lockdowns. Guess his work was only thing that kept him on the straight all those years. Now that we are turning 40, I bet a lot more coming in next few years. Quite a few people from my class have had cancer, mostly girls with breast cancer, but i'm sure theres many others that dont make it public on social media.

Class of 2014 - three people I can think of and all were drug overdoses. Way more in the grades above and below mine. Ours was tame by comparison, still knew a ton in my friend group.

C/O 2014, graduated with a class of 1000 and I know of three that took their own lives, two that got killed by police (being stupid) and one was killed in a murder-suicide with the rest of his family at the hands of their dad

Those are just the ones I remember

Three that I'm aware of.

One guy was killed serving overseas in the army. One girl slipped off a cliff while hiking. Another girl passed away from cancer.

These were all a number of years ago when I was more in the loop of what other people were doing. It's possible more have passed since and I just havent been awared.

No idea. But remember 2 dying already in elementary school. One fell overboard on a cruiseship between Denmark and Sweden while drunk in 9th grade. Was friends with him for a bit - remember being at his home etc. The other one was my best friend for a while - some sort of cocaine overdose or something.

I don’t know but statistically speaking, by 40, about 5% of the cohort passed. In my school that would translate to about ten students. I know of one for sure over a decade ago.

I don’t keep in contact with anyone.

During the Livestong Bracelet craze someone came to our class and gave this speech about supporting some cause. I don't even remember what it was. After she went around to every kid and gave out red plastic bracelets. She got to me and tried to hand me one and I said it's ok I don't need it lol. She got really mad at me and said "what you don't support blah blah blah????" and I didn't know what to say so I just said the truth that I'm never going to wear it and I would feel bad just throwing it away so she mine as well save it for the next presentation. She just looked and me and put the bracelet on my desk and just said she'll leave this here in case I change my mind LOL.

I think everyone thought I was just being difficult.

There were 2 high schools in my town. When a kid from the other high school died, sloots from my high school who never met that kid in their life went to the funeral to virtue signal.

It’s all just virtue signalling. Wearing a ribbon does nothing and changing my profile picture to a kid who tragically hung himself wont do anything to bring him back or help the family with the immense grief they would have been feeling.

3 overdosed, and it was a small class, maybe 50 people. 1 was a pretty good friend of mine, he'd come over to my house as a kid, and we stayed friends throughout high school. I moved out of state and lost touch, and I guess he started hanging out with people that did drugs. I was never around that stuff. He had a rough background, his mom abandoned him and he lived with a foster family.

This happened at my school too. When I was 14 one of my closest friends died in a freak accident. Got hit by a car, declared brain dead. It was devastating.

When I tell you EVERY FUCKING SLOOT came out of the woodwork to make it about them, it was insane. People he openly talked shit about or never mentioned showed up to school in tears claiming to be his best friend. The dude was over my house every single day, knew my family, I knew his. I never called out the frauds, but the list was long.

Even some guys used his death for their own personal gain. One of our legit friends would pull that card to get laid at parties for like the next 2 years and it worked every time.

Personally I never felt comfortable expressing my grief publicly, so I kept it all bottled inside most of the time.

What’s fucked up is I remember the news interviewed four of us about the accident and our friend’s legacy the day after he died. When the story aired, they cut out my interview, but showed two people who barely knew him (ded fkin srs).

I’m dead inside if that counts

Bottle up everything crew checking in.

Honestly my entire family, both mother and fathers side, are exactly like this as well. So were a lot of people we knew back in our old neighborhood in Queens. Everyone was friendly, but no one was really emotional. Everyone says Italian Americans are a bunch of over emotional loudmouths but my entire side of the family were/are extremely stoic

My wife actually found it insane how little my family shares what we are feeling. It took me a lot of time to even slightly open up to her, and even still I struggle. And I’m not talking about crying or any of that (absolutely never cry in front of anyone crew), but even when it comes to airing some grievances, I really just struggle to do it. If I have a chitty day at work I’ll just bottle it up and will never even consider complaining to anyone about it.

I think that I do show my kids love, I just hope it’s enough. I feel like it is, but for me it’s a low bar to begin with

Edit: just realized I opened up more to a miscer than I have to 99% of people I know on real life ffs
