Saw the Odyssey last night.

5/10.

A lot of bad dialogue and casting. Not even talking about helen being black. John leguisamo playing a greek guy with his new york accent was annoying. Then, you have two british actors, tom, holland and robert patterson speaking with american accents, which I thought was retarded. The filming of the movie was all in gray, which is hard to watch after a while and not at all visually interesting. The gave us very little character development to actually identify with anybody in the movie. He also does the obnoxious thing where all the scenes seem to run together with the background constantly, like it's a collage. And then the ending sequence, which I won't spoil was ridiculous. I did not like the movie but not for any of the. Reasons people had before came out

Besides the obvious stupid casting flaws, the movie itself was spectacular. The flow made sense, it told the story well. Damon killed it.

It would have been way better if they had unknown up and coming actors in all the roles except Odysseus and Penelope.

I'll probably see it because it's such an epic story and I want to see how well they tell the story. I can ignore the mis-casts. Helen of Troy isn't even a major character in the story. I might feel different if that black woman was literally cast in the movie Troy because of how central she is to the plot but this isn't that difficult to look past.

Same deal with the tranny. She basically is a minor character.


I admit if either of these characters were major characters it probably would be distracting to enjoy the story but considering what the movie is really about I'm interested in seeing how well they did with it and I can't see either of those roles being damaging enough to make the movie bad off that alone.


Edit:

I'm not seeing it in theaters though. 3 hours is a long time to sit. I'm the type of person that needs to get up and move around. I can't sit for hours like that or my ass hurts. Not sure how some people do it. I've gotta get up and move after like an hour of sitting tops.
