People make way too much of a big deal about home ownership, especially if single

I'm 40 and don't own a house

Same 600 sq ft apartment for the past decade and I have more than enough room (especially as a minimalist crew)

Why would a single guy even need a 2,000+ sq ft house?

Y'all gotta chill with believing you need to own a home

It's just another gimmick they run to make you into obedient consumer for a 20-30 year mortgage

On the same level as other consumer gimmicks of "needing" to spend X number of months of your income on an engagement ring, working full time into your 60s so they can extract as much labor from you as possible before you become obsolete and disposable to the workforce, and so on

The older you get the more you realize almost everything you've been conditioned and told is what you "should" to do is a scam in one way or another

Even if you have minimum down and a terrible interest rate, after enough time you'll be able to refinance and have a CoL below typical rentcels. And if you wait even longer, it'll be paid off and you'll have no mortgage/rent at all. Makes sense to me, srs.

This old guy i know told me his friend had an interest rate of 21% in the 80's, so 6.5% isn't horrible.
