Resident Evil 4 on GC. Very nerve-wracking game because you had to stand still to blow away the freaks coming at you, including the chainsaw guys. Also the unlockable infinite ammo Thompson and RPG rank among the best in video game history.

For me it's probably GTA: San Andreas, but there's a bunch of other ones that are supposed to be GOAT that I haven't played yet (Witcher 3 etc).

OG halflife great combo of story and gameplay. Then it had all those ridiculous multiplayer mods on top. Day of defeat, counterstrike, team fortress. No game will ever compare.

I don't even really remember what it was about, but the story and feels of Mass Effect 1 + 2 had a strong grip on me.

Beyond that, the gameplay in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was absurdly addicting when I was in middle school.
