I'm trying to decide if I want to put some AIO coolers on my 1080Ti's. The blower fans are pretty loud and it's annoying me.. As we approach summer, it's getting hotter and although blower fans are still preferable for SLI over ACX (or similar), I'm thinking of doing some G10 Krakens w/H55's or better again.

Do a custom loop!
Just waiting for the Vega and will include the GPU in my loop. Currently have only the CPU under water.
Didn't bother to include my current GPU since it has a built in AIO. The old 295x2.

Edit: Just noticed you're in KY. Passed by Ft Knox to visit my cousin when I drove from Houston to NYC back in Aug last yr.

Meh I'd like to but that's a lot more money, and as often as I swapout GPU's (what if Vega is better?) then I don't think I can really justify that cost. You gotta figure it's about $180 for the pair of G10 mounts w/coolers, vs ~$500-700 for a good set of CPU, and GPU water blocks, along with the reservoir, radiator, tubes, fittings, and coolant.

That said, I've never actually done a custom loop before and wouldn't mind doing it at some point.. it just seems like (as I said) I upgrade too often to make it worth the additional costs. Besides, the AIO cooling usually does a pretty excellent job.. keeping GPU temps around 27-32 at idle, and never much beyond 50 degrees even heavily OC'd and under load. I know a custom loop would be cooler than that, but those are pretty solid temps for a lot less $$$.

The only thing you actually change are the blocks and you can always sell the old ones together with the old GPUs when upgrading.

But yeah, I installed mine when I was still working in Houston and dont think I really need it here in NY but I already have it.

The problem is getting people to buy the blocks when you upgrade. You're tacking on $100+ to the cost of each of your cards, which if you're using flagship GPU's ($500+) are already somewhat hard to sell on Craigslist/local markets, because most people don't have that kind of money for video cards.

Cool man, thanks. I tried writing up a script ahead of time when I did my video on my ASUS PG279Q monitor, but I think I do better "off the cuff" than when I try to plan things out. It just sounds too dry/stilted when I'm reading off a script.

Thanks for the feedback. Most people don't comment much on my channel so it's hard to know if people liked it or not. I feel like if I had the type of corporate sponsorship that guys like Linus or JayZ2Cents get, where manufacturer's just send them **** to review, I could probably build a respectable subscriber base. As it stands, I just review stuff I buy on Craigslist/Amazon/Newegg for my personal usage, and games. I don't even really review games so much as play around in them a bit... lol.

Looks like you can't get a 1080 Ti waterblock yet anyway. There's only AIO at the moment.. EK blocks went up for pre-order on the 12th, so I imagine they'll be available in the next couple weeks. There was one other option from some company called "Bitpower" on Amazon, but they were out of stock, and $179 each, and looked stupid. Aesthetics matter, lol.

Instant. It is time for you to MAN up and design yourself a custom loop. If you design it right it isn't that bad to replace gpu/cpu all the time. Do not go with flex tubing either. Stick with hard tubing. Since you have money to play with go buy the new Phantek's Elite case. It's only $899 lol. Then purchase many 480mm rads. Go all out. You can run a double loop setup which makes upgrading components much easier.

I'm not sure I'm manly enough. So just the case is $899, plus blocks, radiator, tubing, pump... ~$1500?

The Titan XP blocks fit the 1080ti. I am using one now on my 1080ti.

lol yea. That is if you want a full tower tempered glass case that is very roomy inside. So it would be easy to remove components. My case is the Evolv TG. Around $200 when I bought.

If you go down the AIO route look at the arctic hybrids. Tried both on a 290X (have they made a hotter card yet?) and the arctic was a much better choice. Comes with a finned back plate and a massive heatsink for the VRM area.




On a separate note, anyone still in the red camp notice the latest drivers have totally fubared other overclocking and temp monitoring programs? Used to use afterburner (shows up on screen on G13) but now it's like it can't see the GPU at all.

Yeah that's why I'm probably just going to get All-In-One coolers. About 80% the cooling performance for ~1/8th the price.

Not particularly aesthetic. I wish EVGA would get some Hybrids back in stock.. they really look the best, since they're specifically made for the card they fit. Yeah, the looks are the only draw back, it's not as bad when mounted in a case since it's all black. Half wondered about hacking the g10 bracket to mount over mine though. Still have that, a spare AIO and a waterblock on the shelf, so it's probably time to just buy a new GPU...

TBH I wish Corsair got back into the game, chose their bracket over the Kraken because of better VRM support back in the GTX 780 days.

I have a spare H80i if anyone wants it...

computers now are honestly so poverty. we have to use big azz fans and water coolers and have cables everywhere. people in 30 years will LOL at our setups so hard. computers of the future will be usb-sized sticks that you just plug into a monitor and enjoy.

I just went from a 290 to a 1070, Jesus the difference is huge. AMD just doesn't have anything to offer on the high end. Like 30-60% gains across the board. I can actually run titles at solid 60fps now with reasonable graphics.

And the 1070 isn't even a high end card either, it is nothing compared to a 1080ti.

The RX 480 was decent for the money but I'm getting a 1440p 144hz monitor later this year so thought the 1070 made more sense, it's ****ing huge, only just fits in my case...
