I'm looking to build my first PC. I'm not looking to do any gaming or anything that needs cutting-edge resources but I would like something solid. I'm mostly looking for this to be a PC for home audio recording. Nice CPU, 16 GB RAM minimum, some extra PCI/PCIe slots, dgaf about GPU. It would be nice to have something I can upgrade a little bit years down the line if something goes south and CPUs will be nice and cheap by then.

With that said, could I stick with an AM4/LGA 1200 set and save a few hundred total in costs, or is the cost negligible enough to where I might as well get the newer chipsets?
Also, the motherboards I have looked at, almost all of them only have maybe 3 PCIe slots. Is that the standard now? I gotta nitpick and say 4 would be my sweet spot.
Anything else I should consider going this route? Will rep for good answers. Hopefully this thread isn't too dead.

This build is giving you everything you want and nothing else and I didn't make it aesthetic.

For you... AM4 makes the most sense right now for you as the only AM5 with a strong IGPU is over $300.

I gave you 32 GB of 3600 CL 16 as you don't have a GPU so tighter timings and higher speed would be worth it.

The MB is sufficient with 4 pcie x 16 slots. You don't need a lot of power for this.

SSD is the cheapest A tier on the market 2 tb right now which will be good for your sound editing.

You aren't running a GPU so I went cheap on the PSU and got the current lowest C tier unit, but you have overhead to use it in the future if needed.

Case is current cheapest Gamers Nexus approved case. There are a lot of options if you want to spend a few extra dollars.

Those 32inch 4k 240hz oleds in stock anywhere yet? Partial to the Asus variant probably. Their 27inch 4k 144hz has served me well the last 5 years

I think they are in the next generation still.

I'm looking for the 34" ultrawide 5k OLED, hoping a 5080Ti or 5090 will be able to push the pixels but am not too optimistic.

I'm still on a 5950X 3090 Strix - am considering a whole new build for the next gen, but waiting to see.

I upgraded my gaming mouse from the steel series rival 600 dota 2 edition to a logitech g502 x

I tried the g502 version and found it to be very heavy, returned it on amazon. I liked the extra buttons though, no complaints besides that.

The g502 x is almost twice less in weight at 80 grams

90 cad:https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Previous steel series mouse, side grip fallen off, mouse scroll not working properly etc etc:https://steelseries.com/gaming-mice/...UuU1_MmGKZcAZ4

I also recently bought the razer deathadder v3, but it didn't work with my motherboard, o well- just returned them at the store lol

I just got a superlight 2

It's solid. Previous was the superlight and before that was the gpro and they are all pretty similar aside from weight and click feel. No complaints. Just fps tho I don't play anything that needs more than 2 side buttons

Thx
I actually purchased a home theatre system for it years ago , and was going to power it with a home theatre amplifier and use my 10” sub .
I never got the room finished or the desk built so it’s all in storage.
I recently purchased a Logitech two channel system with a subwoofer for now

I had a logitech 5.1 system back in the day, the rear channels do really work for gaming but now days I am just using edifier 2000db for my computer setup. The bass goes deep enough for me so no sub either

I game more on ps5 or retro emulator but I have a 3060 12gb and 32" monitor. Amd 5700x, 32gb ram

Here’s my computer room from 2003 . Had the surround sound going for gaming . Good times srs

I’ve moved my gaming computer to a spare room and use this space for an Apple photo editing station . Bottom pic is more recent after I added a second Studio monitor

I had something similar, first a basic Logitech 5.1 set in the 2000s then their higher end set up until 2018ish now I just have the 2.0 edifiers.

In my living room I have a 5600g small itx system. Technically I can upgrade it with a small video card but for now I mostly use it to stream videos and occasionally play emulators or simple games

Problem with small single fan cards they can get loud

I bought these years ago thinking I’d use these paradigm home cinema system for a gaming machine . They’ve been stored and nebr used unfortunately, but I think they may have worked well for gaming. Their intended purpose was for home theatre ,but I thought they were small enough for a computer.
This isn’t my pic , but the same ones I own

Here’s a pic here when I was experimenting with how’d they’d sit

I’ve got 5 , but only 3 or shown as I was going to mount some on the rear wall of my computer room once it was dry walled
