That 40 second promo was much better than most of the long winded say nothing promos we get today.

It had intensity. It got across who his character is, and what his motivation for being in the WWF is.

They need to bring these promos types back and ditch most of the center of the ring 20 minute talking segments. Those segments where an unprompted wrestler comes out to the center of the ring just to talk seem so phony. That doesn't happen in any other sport. If they want the guy in the center of the ring talking, they should make it a post-match interview, like in boxing.

I have always considered those promos the 'who the hell asked you' promos. No one asked, no one prompted it, they just go out and answer questions unprovoked. It would make sense to bring back a mean gene type that stands by backstage or ringside to provoke the interaction leading to the narrative being shared. Imagine watching the ufc and right in the middle of the card a fighter comes out and talks for 20 mins in the middle of a ppv? dumb af
