Gunther Responds to Bret Hart's Criticism at 2022 Clash at the Castle
In March of 2023, Bret Hart did an interview with HNLive and criticized the 2022 WWE Clash at the Castle PLE. Hart, who was in attendance for the show, stated the following…
“It was embarrassing to sit in the front row and watch all the kids in the audience slap their leg as the wrestlers slap their leg in these kick spots where they pretend to kick each other with shin pads and slap sounds over and over. To realize that the crowd is in on it, the entire floor is clapping and slapping their leg. I’m going, ‘we used to try and make it real, what happened?’ Everybody is in on it. It’s a big giant charade.”
While appearing on WWE’s The Bump, Gunther issued a response to the criticism…
“I think it’s obvious that, in-ring, he’s one of the best to ever do it. Very enjoyable. He was very popular in Germany and Austria. He was a big superstar there. I don’t forget, and that man sat at my match in Cardiff and was not mentioning nice things after that, so he’s not going to get anything nice with me. Too bad he’s not in the state anymore to settle this in the ring.”

Fans are like people attending action or soap opera movies in theater now.
Way back when fans by early 80’s knew it was just a show, you still suspended disbelief and enjoyed the show . Now I get fans expose the theatrics of it during their chants and cheer it on like a play. In 80’s the still cheered it somewhat like a sporting event. I dunno lol
90’s fans were absolutely rabbid af not just in ecw. But in wwf. Wcw fans oftener changed nitro sucks but it was a hot mess there.
Fans calmed down or quit watching by mid 2000’s
Right ?
Now Gunther is a great. But kind of disrespectful to tweet that about Bret no?
Bret was the new generation he and HBK handpicked to be the new stars distancing their champions from the days of (obvious) anabolic steroid users. Bret and HBK and Ric flair too all used thrm but it wasn’t considered obvious use/ or borderline abuse of it.
Bret is the man who put stone cold Steve Austin in the map. The rest is history after that moment at WM13. They wrestled dozens of times. Austin only actually beat him one time.

Anyway, who would win? Prime Bret vs Gunther? Bret via roll-up?

Bret is right you know.
Wrestlers need to do more to protect the secrets how moves are done. Sure they're not really secrets and anyone can find anything on the Internet, but when you're watching it, you need to believe what you're watching. And if the secrets are exposed, it just becomes one big joke.
Magicians don't show the secret door when they make people disappear. Sure everyone knows how its done, but its not exposed.
Its also disappointing to see wrestlers blatantly call out their spots in the ring. Cena has become lazy and the worst offender.

I'd say its more of an attack on the wrestlers than the crowd. The crowd has to clown around when you see the absolute dog ****e you get in AEW and WWE now.
