Which Wrestling Promotion/Show Was It?

Back when I was a teen, my friend showed me a VHS show that has Bob Backlund, Foley, Bambam, Sid, Dr Death.

I dont remember which, but I am sure it is not the big 2(WWF or WCW). I even forgot who fought who. And most of the wrestlers were unknown to me.

Thanks guys! I actually checked each, and it was indeed UWF. I then wiki UWF. Damn, they have a cool roster but the owner died from coke overdose.

UWF Beach Blast 1991 PPV-one of the lowest buy-rates ever, though it still did more than the WBF PPV. Herb Abrams-he died chasing hookers round his office with a baseball bat in 1996. His 1994 televised return show, during one of the breaks, he got in the ring & shouted let's hear if for the Jews. Dude was nuts-at his launch press conference he said he was going to hire Blackjack Mulligan-who was in jail & Bruiser Brody-who had been dead for two years.

Damn.

And wait... he wasn't aware Bruiser is dead or just wanna troll/get attention or drugged up?

I checked the roster - Backlund, Foley, Sid, Andre, Bam Bam, Dr Death... crazy! It didn't get mainstream appeal?

No idea, he was a coke addict & a conman-he stiffed guys, buildings etc on payoffs. No, he had a lot of names-Bruno on commentary, Albano doing interview segments & a lot of big former WWF/NWA/WCW names. Once the Sportschannel deal was up in late 1991 he was toast. He managed to get Andre on television for the Albano interview segment-Vince went nuts & immediately got Andre back & got Valentine back for the Rumble to disrupt things.

Bruno on commentary? Impressive.

But how did Vince get Andre back? No contract with him? lol

Shockingly, even I can’t remember.

Imo UWF-i
> UWF

Imo. UWF-I were based out of Japan. They invaded New Japan Pro Wrestling in the 80’s similar to have nWo invaded wcw years later. Satoru Sayama was a legend there. Sayama of course years earlier played Dynamite Kids greatest opponent…. the goat. The one and only. The original Tiger Mask. Tiger Mask Sayama was Jushin Thunder Ligers influence in wrestling. Liger grew up watching him much like Chris Benoit was influenced by watching DK. Although liger may not have idolized him to a severe unhealthy obsessive degree.

He said he would put him in the 1991 Rumble. Whether he actually ever intended to is not known, but he knew his physical state & decided to do the angle where Earthquake jumped him from behind to put him out. Then he spent most of the rest of the year showing up on Prime Time & at various PPV's & arena events like the one in Royal Albert Hall to help out the faces when the odds were against them-like Bossman & Bulldog, they did the angle where all the heel managers were trying to sign him as well.

I grew up watching Sayama on WOS as Sammy Lee-best known as being Big Daddy's partner. Maeda also worked there as Kwik Lee as couple of years later-got squashed by Haystacks one week. Liger came over in the mid 1980's as Fuji Yamada & Owen came over from Canada-they had great matches with Rollerball Rocco & boss-eyed Marty Jones.
