Rumor is this is a new 9 speed auto. There's also an option for a 6speed manual

how has nissan not been able to adapt to a 7 speed... theyve had a 6 speed since the 350s. I worked for infiniti for 5 years so I have a soft spot for them and nissan but I shake my head at some of the stuff they do now

I think they went a bit too heavy on the retro look this time, I still prefer the 350Z. That said it's an improvement over the 370, and the power gain is going to be huge. As much as I love NA engines a standard V6 always made the Z slow compared to muscle cars.

I'm diggin the tailights/rear view. The Grill looks better than the concept. I bet you could make an after market front bumper that would make this look close to a 300zx. That would be ideal

I love the design. I am a huge 240z fan and this gives me those vibes.

I'm pretty much waiting to compare the new z with the new sti but I'm really thinking I'm going to be getting one of them.

It would be cool at $35k for base and $41-42k for the top of the range, but it seems like the base with no LSD is $40k, which means the one you really want will be close to $50k. Meh. I'd much rather have a Supra at that point.

The Z is better in almost every aspect. MT did a side by side comparison and it's not even close. The Supra isn't even a Toyota

I like the car, but having owned a 350z and 370z, I'll tell you what parts are identical to its predecessors:

- The door cards and all the switchgear/handles are identical to the ones in the 370z from 15 years ago
- The center tunnel is the same part number as the one in the 370z
- The rear hatch area is identical to the 350z from 20 years ago (same part numbers)
- The side windows are also the same windows from the 370z.
- The windshield and turn signal stalks are all the same as the ones from the 370z
- The seats are identical to the ones in the 370/350, just different leather.

That's how they kept it at a $40k price tag while also making a decent margin on the car.

I do agree that the closer the top trim (performance) gets to $50K msrp it's going to be a tough sell compared to the competition. If they were to sell the top trim for $41K-4$3K that would be a great deal.

I think the average buyer who wants the latest sports car most likely won't care or do the research. I personally don't have an issue with recycling parts if that means it keeps the MSRP low and you get a better performing car than the last gen 370Z.

Nothing against the Supra, but this 400Z is better, IMO. 400hp is excellent and will be fun to drive.

I think the average joe will be able to tell that they recycled the following:
1) Window switches
2) Interior Door handles
3) Center console
4) Some engine bay parts.

The interior parts that have been recycled are like legit hard textured plastic. The window switches have a nice click to them but are like hard plastic (like keyboard caps).
The engine bay parts are old Nissan parts man. The radiator caps, the hose clamps, etc, if you have a trained eye, you can tell that they're reused.
I think if you put the car on a lift and look under it, you'll definitely notice the age when you see that there's no underbody panels.

The VR30DETT doesn't use an intercooler. It uses the coolant to cool the air that goes into the intake via the radiator. and a heat exchanger

Yeah, with aforementioned mods and some injectors with race fuel I bet you could easily put 500 to the wheels
