Working in help desk with cs degree
Working in help desk with cs degree
Idk if this is embarrassing? I graduated in may 2020 and working In help desk since February 2021.
I make 62k a year on my new help desk job that I started in July 2021 and it’s fully remote and easy.
I am using nothing from cs that I learnt. I have also gotten very comfortable at this job and the only reason I obviously will leave is for more $. But I can see my self working here for a long time if things don’t change.
But It’s bothering me I struggled in cs to get the degree and I haven’t gotten a cs job yet or am not using the skills I learnt. But the plan is to eventually get one in the future sometime but cs jobs will still consider me right? I am worried they may wonder why this guy was working help desk with a cs degree?
My friend was making fun of me saying “ do you want to be 30+ and working help desk?”
Like is it really that embarrassing

Pointless degree. I looked into what you learn in a computer science degree and it's all chit I learned when I was like 14 by myself.

Depending on your location, how is making 62k embarrassing? Granted I got a help desk job just with a Comptia A+ cert, but it was during the pandemic and they were desperate for staffing. Put your time in and advance. You can easily PM some of the higher ups and ask them for tips on how to advance and what they look for in particular. Once they realize you're not a lazy p.o.s and want to actually work, they might throw a project or two your way to see if you can handle it.
Just because you get a degree doesn't mean you deserve a job in the field with no work experience. Leave the diva attitude and appreciate the fact that you have a job in a field that you want to advance in.

I thought people in help desk either had no degrees or they had random chit like MIS.
I know someone who has a CS degree but working in help desk, but he is an idiot.
I think you can do a lot better with a CS degree.
I'm assuming it's like accounting. Where if you have an accounting degree, you only do bookkeeping as entry level work if you didn't go to public accounting. Then once you land an accounting job, you never go back to bookkeeping.
Since that is a job that people with no degrees or random degrees do.
