35-40 seems like a reasonable age to retire. Realistically if you're smart and motivated you can be set for life with 15 years of hard work.

Ideally you'd semi-retire because you actually liked the work you've been doing so you've setup a successful business and you stay involved in some way because you enjoy doing it.

I don't really plan on ever retiring completely. I'd rather have a side gig I enjoy that brings in extra income and keeps me busy, which is what one of my businesses now is going to turn into.

No problem working 15-20 hours a week and making a high enough hourly rate to enjoy life and control my own schedule plus be financially secure and not live on a defined budget.

Kids will be done with college. House will be paid off. No debt. Would probably move south or to another country, start a small business to keep myself occupied, and relax.

I had every opportunity to make this right , but fuked it up in spades . You need to make sacrifices when your younger and not buy stupid chit like I did .
Had I invested early , I’d probably be mortgage free and have enough of a pension to retire.
But now that’s even hard to say , seeing as the markets are crashing bigly .
Maybe I did it right by living vicariously.

Luckily I’m still working , as it could always be worse

I retired just 4 months shy of 64.....been about 11 years now.

My take regarding SS thinking, if I were asked I'd say?...."Retire at 62 if at all possible because one doesn't know how long one will live".
Worked for me....plus, I didn't get hit by a bus a week later.

I feel like the majority of people are too financially ignorant and aren't advised properly. I agree with the above miscer that a hard 15 years of grinding is enough to semi-retire if you play your cards right.

I'll most likely be retiring in my 40s. The only reason I'm grinding that long is I want a 'passive' retirement income of 150-200k per year. I want to be on absolute chill mode for the last 40-50 years of my life.


With that said I could most likely semi retire at 40 as it stands now. I'm 35 and on chill mode work our wise. Only 40h a week average. Typically take about 1 week off per month to myself/to chill.
Most of our legal immigrants are fairly conservative/right leaning. Whether that's Asian, Indian, Hispanic, etc. I think we are going to see a shift in the lunacy in the future. I have 0 faith in government run social security. A bit more faith in private run 401k/pension plans. I also have hedged into real estate (single family rentals), single stocks and crypto.


If sh!t starts going that far south in the US where the government is trying to seize privately owned assets/stocks/financial holdings I'll have been completely liquid and hopping ship to a more conservative country long before that.



I've actually been reading up on Argentina recently. Seems like fairly diverse places. Lots of hunting/fishing. Snowskiing in winter, mountains, and also warmer areas. That's where the Nazi's fled to and they seem to have flourished in the country and been allowed to do their own thing (srs).


I doubt if you'll find any perfect place but I'm definitely scoping out South/Central America as a possible retirement spot.

I have already made my mind up that I am working until the day somebody has to wipe my a$$ for me... I will simply negotiate months of paid Vaca and keep my mind working as long as possible... because you retire... you fall apart at that age

With advances in medical technology, more and more people will be living into their 90s and even 100s. I'm sure a lot of 60+-year-old folks would like to continue working beyond the current retirement age. For a lot of folks, they don't have a choice.
