Chinese Balloon Update: It Is Being Piloted

The original story was it was a weather balloon that just got blown off course.



So last I heard there were 2 of them and the one getting the most attention isn't just randomly bob-bob-bobbing along.




I've seen some discussion about why it is here.

- what can the balloon see that a satellite can't?

- could the balloon have some sort of harmful payload?

Why don't they just fly over it with a giant cargo net (less wind resistance), and pull it to the middle of the desert where they used to do nuke tests?

Land there, and have people inspect the thing for dangerous payload, and then go from there.

Apparently the size of the balloon is bigger than a football stadium and the payload below is the size of 2-3 schools buses.

Bringing down a balloon that size is almost impossible as the Air Force tried to bring down a Canadian weather balloon in the 90's using fighter jets, the jets fired their cannons and pierced hundreds of holes into the fabric but it did not make any difference, the balloon continued to drift.

Today the pentagon spokesperson said they can't go into details of the payload but rumor has it it may contain some radiological components.

Seems as good a plan as any.

As far as war with China I happened to see this today with a case for "why US war with China is inevitable"-



Cliffs:

- US oil production is falling

- Chinese oil consumption is increasing

- competition for oil will lead to war

It is interesting that the Biden administration has kept the tariffs and such which Trump put in place and has even increased them. Also that the US is working on getting all of the chip producing countries to embargo selling their chips to China. I think only one country hasn't got on board yet.

I saw something unrelated to the balloon thing this week that said a study some years back estimated that if the eastern seaboard electrical grid were to be knocked out by something like and EMP it would take 5 years to get it back up to 80% because we don't keep spare parts on hand for something like that and there would be a long lead time to manufactured all the transformers and such.
