The main thing to keep in mind is that car salesman is one of those professions where everyone is the scum of the earth.

They will try to scam you so have situational awareness about that. Whatever they insist their hard price is, they can probably go a lot lower.

Cars are like shoes, they're depreciating assets they're always gonna lose value unless you buy some collectors car and never drive it and sell years later. If you want a toy but dont want to be hit with losing value, find a secondhand one...

Make sure you do your research and don't just buy a "good deal" on Craigslist and end up have the car get taken back from you ded fkn Srs

i've seen people put trackers in cars, sell it then retrieve it with a spare key before the owner registers it

I know a guy who was a cars salesman on the phone and would always make up bs stories just to get them to feel safe with him and he would over charge them like crazy even if he knew they wouldn't be able to afford the car they would be approved

- watch out for the finance manager. Used to be the salesman you needed to watch out for, but nowadays it’s this guy. He’ll try and trick or pressure you into buying overpriced warranties, vin etching, nitrogen air and other bullchit

- get out the door quotes (including taxes and all fees). You can use this to negotiate. Get an OTD quote, email to other dealers and ask if they can beat it. Rinse and repeat until you’ve got a good deal

if you're dead set on a Beamer, which based on how stupid this post is already you probably are, make sure you get an m/3/4/5 unless you want to lose all your money on day one.

If you do, you'll just lose half your money on day two and spend days 3-infinity at the mechanic.

Good luck!

Oh and make sure it's insured.

Step one, don’t be an asshat. Don’t sell or buy a car for more or less than it’s worth. I’ve seen some lames try to sell pieces of junk for more than they are worth. This more often than the oppposite. Toyota guys at least try harder than other brands to maintain their car to maintain value, but they can get a little carried away.

If you dont want to lose money on it you buy a Toyota.

If you want to ensure your money is wasted, buy a BMW. Worst resale and reliability of all time. Basically a throwaway car thats best leased for a few years than returned to the dealer so its resold to a sucker.

Agree on Toyo reliability, owned a half dozen and only sold one, rest I ran till they got totaled by family.

BMW, just research what you're buying. I had an X5 4.4 that everyone gave me chit about but I got on a forum and fixed a lot of the common issues myself. I would never buy one again, silliest engineering flaws, like if it rains then freezes, you can't open the doors without breaking the handle. Was glad to see that POS pull out of my driveway, got a letter from a towing company a week later that the buyer had abandoned it and never even registered it. Think he drove it maybe 14 hours.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

Bmw are the worst on losing value

Just pay cash and Toyotamaxx or Hondamaxx and lose almost nothing if you buy it right, ideally used from private party who took care of it

Yup. When my girl bought a car he kept saying let's add the warranty won't change your payment. But wouldn't admit it extended it another year. Dirty fuks

I got $5k off the dealer markup because one of the salesman quoted me 33k when we were texting before, and they said they would honor that and took it down from 38. Ask before you go.

Here is how you actually get the lowest price while keeping negotiating and game-playing to the minimum:

Determine the exact make and model of car you want, along with any options.

Email every dealer in a 100 mile radius. Tell them you're looking for their lowest and best all in price on that car.

Tell them you are shopping multiple dealers and will go with the best price. Have them email you an itemized invoice with each dealer add-on, doc fee, taxes, etc. Do not give them your phone number.

Dealers hate this so they try to hide their email address. You will have to search for it on their page. Only about 1/3 will respond with an invoice. (That's why you email 20+ dealers)

Then go with whoever has the lowest price. If they start to play games, go with the second lowest price.
