Modern business = get subscriptions and hope people forget about them

its the gym model applied to every business

what are your thoughts on this business model?

A recent example that happened to me that pissed me off:

-Accidently signed up for some streaming service on my firestick
-never used it, didn't know I had it
-got charged for 8 months - wasn't showing up on credit card bill because it was coming out of gift card balance and promotional credits
-never got receipts for the $10/monthly either
-Amazon refused to refund me

I'm big on personal responsibility, but the idea that you can accidently sign up for something, not know you have it, and get charged for months on end without ever using it seems pretty fucked up.

We are all subhuman things on a bunch of virtual plantations and meant to be exploited. They days of a business earning your money is long gone, now we just have to give it to them even if they aren't worthy.

also, every single "free" trial wants your credit card. they don't want to give you a free trial, they want you to sign up and forget about it.

I do believe there should be some kind of law that if you have a subscription and you haven't used it for a year, it should be automatically cancelled unless the user specifically opts to keep paying.

With maybe exceptions for stuff like life insurance.

I despise modern business. All the subscription services, cheaply made products and stupid gay ads...it's vexing.

As someone with over two decades experience working in gyms, this is pretty accurate. Gym memberships generally go month to month after the first year. Many people will forget this, not check their bank statement for 10 months, and then demand thousands be refunded.

This is the big one. The deception is what gets me. I remember years back I signed up for a free trial of DAZN to watch a boxing match. Ended up forgetting about it and getting charged $10/mo but accepting it because I would use the service occasionally. Idk if you guys remember but DAZN was designed to be a replacement for traditional PPVs. Well a couple years in they pulled a bait & switch. Not only did you have to pay a monthly subscription, but the big fights were suddenly standalone PPVs too for like $70+.

I immediately cancelled after that.

LMAO

I purchased a BMW EV back in October 2022; first 12 months came fully loaded - then for $160 a year I could have access to heated seats, $100 a year or some shit heated steering wheel - traded in for cash and a Mustang three months after purchase and that motherfucker has none of the really cool tech you don't actually need to drive, but has heated/cooled seats for free plus it sounds like a beast and people don't go, "Oh, another rich cunt with a BMW" when they see it. Instead they tell you to rev the cunt out of the thing, kids ask you to light up the rears, idiots want to have drag races at traffic lights and people tell you it's a sick car when they see it.

I only wanted the noise, the speed and a stick shift but everything else is cool.
