this is very true. most the sports require a terrain that 99% of the country does not have access to play on regularly and affordably (ice rink, snowy mountains)

The Olympics are mostly obscure sports that don't interest me, and even mainstream events like hockey or basketball have imbalanced competitive fields because not every country takes a given sport equally seriously.

Whereas pro leagues in America, aside from soccer, are all the top leagues internationally. So watching two teams play in an American professional league is almost always a higher level than what you see between countries in the Olympics.

Also, as an American, we're so boss that we have a thousand different sources of pride. We're not one of those countries whose name you would only ever hear mentioned if someone wins an Olympic event. So there's less to really get worked up about.
