Would the Manson Family commune have been successful without the drug use....?
And the murder?? Because to me, it still seemed like a good time. Lots of nice gals there. Shameless whores, but probably still a delight. Lots of sunshine, outdoor life. They got to ride horses at the ranch. Made lots of friends...

Nah, I mean pretty much 100% of those types of situations involve lots of drugs use. At least at the beginning.
I guess once everything is so normalized you can begin to transition away from drugs and still keep the degeneracy, but that's not something that will happen upfront.

Nah, I mean pretty much 100% of those types of situations involve lots of drugs use. At least at the beginning.

I think it's because rampant drug use is a low-threshold, entry-level activity for the types that would want to runaway from society, but also those that want to do loads of drugs typically want to put themselves in situations where they can do so without being shunned by society
