Is there any better skillset to have than to be great at sales.

Sales is a cutthroat AF but if you have that gift of gab to be able to get a customer to buy the product you are set. Every product needs to be sold and no point of making a product or service if it isn't sold. The only thing that might beat sales is the ability to innovate what sells. It's all about producing revenue. I know this though, hard work is BS. If Hard Work paid off or was valued, manual labor would be the best paying jobs out there.

I say this as a tradie who just hates to admit it that all of what I invested as a automotive technician at the most will make me a middle class lifestyle. The service advisors make about as much as the technicians if not more, managers are usually just leading sales people. We call it the service department, we don't sell car fixes, we sell service, My ability to "sell" by getting warranty companies and insurance companies to approve claims probably has made me more significant for me financially than any repairs I could make. Maybe if I had worked on this skill towards selling to customers to buy something I would be further ahead.

Yea its just something you have or dont.

I grew up with this wannabe white kid rapper who was really good at performing and being in front og crowds and performing.

He tried to be a rapper until like 28, then gave it up and is in sales doing well and he stsrted that in his late 20s.

In my world, we call it business development but I agree that the ability to sell is one of the best skills. Of course, the product and / or service matter but managing customer relationships is critical to success...

I'm too technical-minded. I sucked at car sales. I knew the pamphlet specs front to back. But I never had that real-world silver tongue. And I can't bullshit people. Even in computer sales, I've never been able to up sell people on things they don't need. I'm not going to sell a gaming PC to an old guy that just wants to check his e-mail and play browser solitaire.

Right, and I think it's the ablity to do so but as Ex-patriot brought up, it would not be good for the customer relationship. I think often some companies value too much in who brings in the most money but there is that aspect of repeat customers. I know where I work, yeah they are paid on what they sell, but retention is very important.

Nah, this isn't true. I legitimately had zero sales bones in my entire body back coming out of college, but obviously much higher than average intelligence and although I'm introverted I still like being social. Couldn't get the jobs I wanted out of college due to graduating in 2008, so I ended up taking a sales job with training as a Mortgage Broker.

Fast forward to 2026, and I have three Development deals I'm currently putting together for buildings that will eventually be $200M projects each. And this is as a self employed guy working for myself and making all of my own decisions.

Obviously there are high energy low IQ guys who are better than I am at simple "wheeling and dealing", but those guys have no upward mobility because they aren't intelligent enough to operate outside of using psycholigical tricks and being high pressure. People will buy from them because they do make shit happen, but nobody actually trusts them, so they will never rise outside of operating in what is essentially "Bazaar Sales".

But for someone like me who has tons of experience and is a lot smarter than any other Broker, people see that I have the ability to take complex deals from start to finish over years, and that's some very valuable shit. One of my deals, my commission will be about $1M, but my client who put all the money up is making about $8M from it, and the deal never would have had a chance without my involvement. So when you have a track record of that type of success, people want to work with you.

When I was in my early 20s I used to drive through car lots. I like cars, so it was fun just to look. I remember driving through a Mazda lot one day and the sales guy popping up like a meerkat when I jumped out to look at the brand new RX-8. He gave me the speel, running through the pamphlet. He tried selling me on a non-functional spoiler, like it made it cooler. I'm a car guy. Does that actually work on people? Several years later, I drove a guy's RX-8. Those things were weak as shit.

I agree with all of this, except you are a sub-70 IQ homeless incel who sucks dicks under the freeway overpass to make rent.

Apart from that spot on.

Now, let’s all get back to building wealth through #inverseheldens

IMO that’s not what sales is about. It’s about helping people find what they are looking for. The integrity builds reputation, and the reputation brings more sales. You can lie to someone but that’ll only be a one time sale.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.

I feel like the order of a salesman goes like this l:

Best salesman: has crazy work ethic, knows the product, good at taping into what the client wants then know how to position the product to fill their needs. They basically have a natural ability to get the client to think that it was their idea to buy, instead of being sold.

Good salesman: had good work ethic, doesn’t know how to sell so therefore doesn’t come off as a “sleezy salesman”, offers the same product to everyone, and the by sheer volume some people buy, but some people don’t. People usually like this guy, but will only buy if they they were already into the product in the first place.

Worst salesman: bad work ethic, thinks he’s “a people person” and people will just buy anything from him cuz he’s “such a good salesman”. This type of dude is so bad at sales because he just reeks of desperation and comes off so disingenuous and sleezy salesman that no one trusts him and just bounces around different sales jobs but never sells anything. This type actively loses clients that were interested in the product and always blames everyone but himself.

Oliver coming in strong following the announcement of the mentally ill tournament.

Will this boost his seeding? How will judges react after witnesses these efforts? Surely Oliver looks like a LOCK to advance past the first round.
