I'm not on Facebook, but my best friend Dale uses it regularly. My high school has a memorial page for alumni who've passed away. Separated by graduation year. I specifically told him to never tell me anyone on that list. I wasn't interested. I'd rather not know. But he let it slip that an old friend of ours had committed suicide recently. I hadn't spoken with her in over fifteen years, but it was still a punch to the gut. And I was pissed at Dale for telling me. I still am. I really don't want to know that sort of stuff, fellas. Does nothing but bring me down. Bums me out for weeks. Are you boys like that as well? Or would you like to know that sort of thing?

That’s a weird coincidence because I recently started following that site for my old high school on Facebook, but haven’t yet seen anyone I knew

I'd rather know tbh, I had a friend not return any of my texts for years until I found out he was in a motorcycle accident. I felt horrible, but I think I'd feel grief properly had I known he wasn't ignoring me, as opposed to grief and guilt for assuming the worst of him
Have fun and be yourself :-)

I would like to know. Last year I found out that one of my best friends in high school had been dead for about 4 years (srs). After graduation, he became a heroin addict, which was a surprise because he didn’t even smoke weed when we were growing up. I lost touch with him somewhere around Covid, didn’t think much of it, then out of nowhere I saw his sister post a death anniversary pic on Facebook. Apparently he OD’d. I was completely unaware. Felt like shit mane. Kinda made me mad too.

I would want to know.
That's happened to me twice... First was a teacher in HS that I liked a lot, and the second was the girl I went on my first date with when we were 16. And even though I hadn't kept up with them, I still would have went to their funerals and paid my respects if I had known.

It's a hot night. The mind races. You think about your knife: the only friend who hasn't betrayed you, the only friend who won't be dead by sunup. Sleep tight mates, in your quilted chambray night shirts.

I noticed my high school has a memorial page. Don't think it is complete though because I personally know a couple people who passed from my class back in 2002 and they aren't listed on there

So you would rather not know. Are any of these people actually your friends if you care so little about them?

I showed up to one of my high school reunions when I was about 45 and found out 2 of my friends died from natural causes. Fucking natural caused at 45. It blew my mind people die that young from natural causes. I've had friends die in boating accidents and car crashes, but natural causes at 45 freaked me out.

I would want people to know if I died. I’ve even authorized a miscer to let yall know if I ever meet my demise. I basically live my life in a way that if I’d want it then I’ll do it for another person so yes I want to know if someone dies . I would actually hate if I somehow disconnected from people and died and then they didn’t know. lol maybe that’s a me problem - Idk
Although I understand how you feel OP - when my boyfriend died he was brought to the hospital and they were able to like revive him in a way. He was gone but I guess they can do stuff to get some a persons heart going again. Anyways I had like 2% hope he was still alive for a few days. It was me being in complete denial so that 2% was not built on anything besides my craziness but I stayed off Facebook and anything else that would have said for sure that he died for a couple days until I felt like I could handle it.
