Getting an oil change at a car dealer is idiotic

You literally could watch a YouTube video on how to change oil, go to wal Mart and buy the shit, drive back, and change your own oil in the time it takes the dealer to do it, and you get to avoid the sales pitch.

I work from home some, so in theory its not wasted time for me to go and get my oil change and makes a lot of sense (work from waiting area). but they take so long it ends up being a very frustrating experience.

Even if you make an appointment

I pay $50 for an oil change down the road. It’s not even worth it for me to do it at that point

that's the thing. even at the dealer its $60. the oil and filter alone are $30 minimum.

in theory it doesn't make sense to do it yourself because it's so cheap

but the dealer ruins the whole fucking experience and makes it take forever that, yea, I'll just do it myself at that point

I agree, and in the past always did my own oil changes, but it's like $120 for an oil change at the dealer, and if you're already there for something else sometimes it's nice to jsut pay them and get it finished. If it were like $200 I'd tell them to fuck off, but $120 seems to be my convenience price if I'm already there.

(work at a dealer) I don't understand paying $100 for a basic production car oil change and the guys changing oil are not in the main shop for a reason. If we have a lube tech that is actually doing his job, it means he probably needs to be moved up.

I bought a package where I get free oil changes and they also do tire rotations/inspect the vehicle so I go to the dealer but it does take frustratingly long

The tech who would change oil for a job is going to screw up

That’s why it’s not worth it

GMiscer is a GOAT poster.
dealers near me constantly running specials $40-60, but it's just not worth it to sit there. if it took a reasonable timeframe i'd do it every time and just work while I wait.

you saying the quality of work is what I should be worried about?

today the guys actually doing the work had it out pretty quick but the service advisor was nowhere to be found to get my fucking keys

The "inspections" are usually trash and I'd always check your oil level and such after.

they "inspect the vehicle"

they're just trying to sell shit. I had to say no to literally 4 different things I didn't need.

- brb tiny crack in windshield "replace for free!" (at my insurance cost)
- brb "brake pads only 4mm!" ( actually probably 5, round down for the sale)
- brb "battery is dead!" (car shows no signs of dead battery and I have a jump box so who fuckin cares if it does die)
- brb "time to get alignment done, needs to be every x miles or your tires will be fucked!" (cars don't need alignment unless they're out of alignment)

man fuck it then I'm just doing it myself from now on

I take it to an old school napa shop down the road typically, but the dealer was running a special and their waiting room is nicer so decided to try them again.

the old school napa shop guys are great, don't sell shit you don't need, they just do work and get you out. They pad slapped my buddies car though so I'm beginning to question a little bit... aren't you supposed to always do rotors too?

You guys don't have express oil joints where you live? I always find the express (whatever name for 10minute oil changes they use in that town) and go there during lunch. Never even have to get out the car. In and out in 10 minutes. Been doing that since 2006 when I first started driving
