Anybody else really like Vanilla Sky? One issue at the end.

Tech-support tells David that he (David) chose the moment outside of the bar to “splice” into his lucid dream.

Well, this is just absurd. Why would David choose to start his lucid dream AFTER the car crash/with a disfigured face after losing Sophia? How stupid.

If anything, he’d choose the moment when he walked out of Sophia’s apartment after their first date.

It's possible he wanted as much of the real Sophia in his memories as he could have. Even if that night at the club didn't go well, it was the last time he saw her in his real life.

I honestly understand the choice. The lucid dream was supposed to correct it all and live the perfect life thereafter anyway. I'd probably want to keep as many of the real experiences with her too.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Honestly, valid.

I still would’ve picked the splice to occur right after the first date, before he even saw Julie. But I see your point of view.

Yours makes sense too. It wasn't really a happy memory he was choosing keep and probably a lot of people would pick where you're suggesting. I'd personally want to keep even the bad memories of someone I loved as opposed to erasing it like he did though. I really don't know what the more popular choice would be, but at the very least I can say I do understand why that was the splice he chose.

I could make the argument that the reason it turned into a nightmare in the first place was that he chose such a dark time in his life with so many bad memories.

Which of course means that my choice would make for a much less interesting film.

And it’s just about the only Tom Cruise movie that I ever really liked. I mean, The Outsiders is a great movie, but I wouldn’t exactly call it a Tom Cruise film. And I never really got into Top Gun or Mission Impossible.
