Waiting for John Frum = Fascinating!

Very interesting. 

In 1940, an American military group showed up on a small pacific island called Tanna. One of the men who greeted them was named John. The people on this island have developed an entire religion worshiping America and “John Frum”. They raise American flags every day as part of their religious rituals, and they march in American military style. They believe that John Frum is coming back one day to help them.

Yeah, it’s fascinating how closely this very modern religion (created nearly in isolation less than 100 years ago) resembles Christianity.

They have a Messiah who is dead but is alive in spirit. Their Messiah will come back to save them. Essentially America is their version of heaven. John is their version of Jesus. They have prophets who speak to John and deliver his message to the congregations. Then they have people who oppose the prophets who think they’re false prophets.
