Is AI going to be a final nail in the coffin for Reddit and forums

Misc used to be the place for information in the late 2000’s-early 2010’s. You would search a question in google and inevitably Misc threads would be some of the first results with the answers. Seems like Reddit took over in that regard once Misc threads were removed from google and I’ve used it look up answers in the past but its mostly a liberal cesspool now so I avoid like the plague.

Lately, I’ve been using ChatGpt for looking up stuff and its been very helpful for info that would take a long time to find on the web. It identified a mysterious house plant I had and taught me how to care for a bonsai tree, helped me plan an itinerary for my trip to St Thomas, cooking, auto stuff, etc. Granted, you don’t have the human interaction that comes with forums, which is why I think close knit communities like Misc have a better chance of surviving than mega forums like Reddit. There are more concerning threats with AI than replacing the internet but still, it’s the place to go to get info these days.

Bro I’m not gonna lie… AI didn’t kill forums — forums killed themselves the second every answer turned into “use the search function” followed by a 2007 thread with broken Photobucket links 💀Like yeah, back in the day you’d ask a simple question and get roasted by 5 dudes with anime profile pics before someone maybe helped you. Now I just ask ChatGPT and it doesn’t call me an idiot mid-answer 😂That said… forums still got one thing AI doesn’t — unhinged dudes arguing for 17 pages about the “optimal protein intake” while being 72kg soaking wet.AI = quick answersForums = chaos, ego battles, and one absolute legend who actually knows his stuffHonestly I use both. AI for efficiency… forums when I want entertainment while I’m eating my chicken and rice 🍗💪

This is why I keep coming back here besides the major lulz. Steam Off-topic is very similar but even more regulated than here though.

That’s how I found the misc. put some fuked up question into google back in late 2011 and the misc popped up.

Went there and was like “what in the blue fuk is happening in this chit heap?”, but knew that whatever was happening seemed pretty funny at the time

Probably. Forums aren't really useful anymore, most of the time you will end up just arguing with some pathetic asshole nerd trying to be pedantic. Nobody wants to deal with some admin bullshit trying to register on some forum either. Vast majority of people will just ask the AI unless they're really into something specific.

you forgot about the power tripping mods. Misc mods banned all of the popular posters because they were jealous of their fame
