In the story it was on a mission to take out 125 drones. Granted I don't know chit about war but if you have 125 enemies firing at you, yeah there is a decent chance you'll take a shot.

It was hit using an electro ptical or IR missile. No amount of "stealth" cant protect you from that. They got over confident and were flying too low and too exposed to such kinds of missiles.

You misread that part. It was Iran that claimed they shot it down as part of their mission that intercepted 125 US and Israeli drones.

That said, if 125 drones could take down an F-35, that'd be a complete disaster. Drones are cheap, slow, and completely expendable by comparison. They shouldn't even be able to get near a fighter jet based on speed, altitude, and maneuverability alone. That's not even considering the fact the drones shouldn't ever be able to establish a reliable to track on it.

You could throw 1000 of them at a F-35 and it might as well be a swarm of gnats.

Who said the F-35 was invincible or undetectable? It's like saying a ship is unsinkable. They aren't, it's just harder to detect, harder to hit.
