They are both an appeal to identity for control and appeasement purposes.

Literally the same thing rebranded.

The little dramas, the “my team” even though the fan has nothing to do with the team…. Etc.

What's cringe is when you try to force either of those on others, whether it's making 20 political Facebook posts a day, or calling in to sports talk shows to argue that the coach is an idiot and you know how to run the team better.

You can add evangelical atheists who never pass up an opportunity to say something about the "imaginary sky friend."

Def sports fans I saved thousands in taxes this year due to politics imagine being a grown man and caring about some roided up dumbass throwing or catching a ball.
