Anyone else miss when Mid size trucks were actually Mid size?

Like the 2005 Ford Ranger which started at $14k:

Now midsized trucks are the size of full size and costs way more.

I had an '03 ranger with the 3.0 Vulcan and that thing was a workhorse. Pulled this UHaul that was bigger than it was across the country and chugged right along the whole way without a complaint.

The 1998–2011 Ford Ranger is a highly reliable, compact pickup known for its durability, simple maintenance, and excellent maneuverability. This generation featured three engine options—2.3L I4, 3.0L V6, and 4.0L V6—and offered strong,5,600–5,900 lb towing capabilities with the 4.0L V6, making it a popular choice for rugged daily use. Kelley Blue Book +4

Buddy has a 2001 Toyota Tacoma TRD, which he bought brand new, basically, only had 1k miles, and he has been using it as his daily work vehicle ever since...

The thing gives him zero problems, only ever does regular maintenance on it... GOAT car, they just don't make them as they did back then

I had a 2008 4x4 Mazda truck , basically it’s a Ford Ranger with Mazda badging . Second dumbest thing I did was sell it srs . It was a lot of fun to , and I suspect easy AF to work on of anything went wrong .
And 230 hp was nuts for such a little truck . Faurk , you’d pass someone on the highway and be doing like 80mph instantly

These days you have a Ford Maverick, which is a 4cyl front wheel drive car disguised as a truck. Hyundai makes something like that., too.

i think small trucks that are actually trucks are making a comeback soon, though. Toyota Stout and RAM 100 or something like that.

I doubt they ever make it to the US market

Small trucks are fucking gay. LOL at 4 cylinder

Dude, I use my truck to haul shit and carry shit in the bed. I'd destroy that piece of shit mid-sized. I don't drive anything less than a V8. Not only is it more powerful, but it's so much more enjoyable to drive. (Super Ded fkn Srs)

I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado. Looks like a S10 compared to the new trucks.

Isn't a ranger a compact pickup?

Unfortunately with pickups its usually a situation where you can't have everything you want in 1 package. I had an 04 Ranger that I converted to twin sticks using stuff out of a level 2 FX4, and loved that truck for a while. It was easy to park in a parking lot, fit in my garage, got reasonable gas mileage. Over time I begin to wish I had a bigger pickup and began to resent the cramped cabin, lack of power, and small bed the Ranger had so I traded it to a guy for his low mileage 05 F150 FX4 plus cash on my end.

I loved the F150 for a while but on 35"s it was too tall to go in my garage, and wouldn't fit unless I folded in the mirrors and removed the receiver hitch everytime. The F150 also lacked real pulling power of Super Duty but also lost the maneuverability/ease of fitting in my garage of the Ranger. The gas mileage also really sucked on it once I put a leveling kit on it.

I ended up selling the F150 to buy a mustang, and just use my company truck as my pickup now (family business so its my pickup anyways.) From time to time I find myself looking at twin stick Rangers but if I got one I know the cycle would repeat again.

+1 on full size trucks. I had a 2016 RAM with a V6 that was totally decent until the engine fell apart. then a 2021 with a Hemi that I got rid of when it started that stupid Hemi tick at 10K.

i love big trucks like that but Dodge can't make an engine at all.

I don’t see the point of a small truck. If you want utility just get a little Kei truck from Japan. Decent bed and mileage.

Otherwise, full size or CT like I did.
