I lived an hour away from the WTC in Stamford CT, and had my mom's side of the family all FDNY. I was studying at James Madison University in Harrisonburg VA in September 2001. Our family knew a lot of victims. Also, whenI was at James Madison University, 80% of the school is from Washington DC and VA. As you know, the Pentagon got hit as well. My suite mates father worked at the Pentagon.




In April 2007 I was a senior at JMU Harrisonburg VA, an hour from VA Tech. (I was off for a year) I had two close friends in Liviu Lebrascu's class, the teacher that saved his entire class and was shot so they could escape. It was almost surreal how he was able to get all of this accomplished and even with how sketchy he was he was able to get the guns. His reasoning doesn't ever seem to be clear. It doesn't make sense.

It felt like terrorist attacks have always been relevant to me since 9/11. I lived an hour from the WTC. I remember in October 2002, I drove from Harrisonburg VA back home to Fairfield CT. I remember going to several gas stations, and running with my back down to go and pay for it at the station because at the time the DC Sniper. I went to Game 6 of the 2003 Yankees World Series vs Marlins in the Bronx, an absolute huge terror risk.

It’s hit or miss. Our inner cities look visibly shittier nowadays. There are homeless people and drug addicts all over the place (albeit maybe less than a couple years ago) and an unfortunate phenomenon I’ve noticed is that everyone with the means to do so is flooding the most affluent suburb near them, while every other neighborhood is deteriorating. There’s really no such thing as a middle class community anymore.

At least that’s how it is near me. When I was growing up, as long as you avoided the hood, you were good. Now it’s the hood + every other urban neighborhood (besides one trendy/phaggy area) + most inner ring suburbs and nearby towns. So much trash and degeneracy.

The average individual might be exposed to less violence though. I suspect this is a result of government surveillance and a digital lifestyle that keeps us docile.

There are definitely fewer people out there looking to get into fights nowadays than in the past. I remember back my 2nd year of college, there would always be some random loser types that we would have to kick out of our parties and they would always try to get in fights on the way out. Also, I remember black people constantly stealing shit from out house during college. Also there was this homeless guy who used to sleep on the front porch, and he actually tried coming inside of our house one time and we had to throw his ass out.

I think the main reason is that there are many fewer unwanted children in the world nowadays. Black people have been getting a lot of abortions for a long time now, so there just aren't as many street kids growing up aimlessly.
